I’ve noticed a huge variation in points needed to reserve a IHG hotel stay. Weekends , weekdays, etc, but cash (CC) amounts don’t change much.
What bothers me is with today’s cookies, and tracking us it seams like if you search a day , area, if you don’t reserve something the very next day the points needed for that reservation will increase substantially , but cash cost stays the same.
example
I searched my wife’s birthday to see what’s available for a Geneva wine stay in Sept , was going to cost 18,000 points = $90 worth of points or $160.00 if I used a CC.
She checked to make sure she was off work, two days later I went to reserve a room and now it’s 36,000 points =$180 worth yet CC use would be still $160.00.
This is a Saturday night, checked the day befor a Friday night, and it’s still 18,000 points.
Everybody wants to track us now, I believe by tracking us increasing points on days / places we search is happening now, a form of price gouging.
Anybody else notice this?
I always have about 50 reservations made in anticipation of events I want to go to. Reserving with points saves a lot of money, and can be canceled for free. So I have a lot of Experience watching this fluctuation, but just now putting 2 and 2 together with recent search gouging that might be happening.
