I cannot believe I missed seeing this in person and saw the link on my sister-in-law's Facebook page. He talks about his prostate cancer a bit and his music.

Some of my favorites of the era were Rock Candy, Bad Motor Scooter, I Got the Fire, and Space Station Number 5. He also played on the Edgar Winter album that went platinum. Ronnie's original album, "Montrose," went platinum back in about 1973-1974.

You may be thinking 'sighting' but I'm thinking 'distress' :)

[my comment above will make less sense now that the original post has been moved out of 'Sightings/Distress' and into 'TUG Lounge']

I had Denise move the thread to the Lounge.

Thanks for the link. I saw Montrose in '74 with Sammy Hagar on vocals. The guys across the hall in my college dorm used to like to wake everyone up in the morning with Bad Motor Scooter at full volume.

His music is less heavy metal than it is today. We thought it was rockin' back in the day, but now Bad Motor Scooter seems tame.

Montrose album was killer....high energy rock greatness. Hagar was at his best IMO, although I liked his solo work for the most part. His stint with Van Halen was a sell-out to commercialism; all flash & pizzaz...no soul.

Sammy may not be where he is today, had Ronnie not discovered him. A lot of talented people out there never get an opportunity for the venue to rise to their own glory, yet Sammy got it with Ronnie and surpassed him in fame and fortune. They are definitely friendly, but two egos in one band didn't work.

Sammy had/has a great personality...goes a long way as a lead singer. Saw Ronnie Montrose one time as he opened up for Santana for a show in my college town; '81 - '82 time frame. Great show. He came out and joined Carlos for a song in their set; great stuff.

Your post made me get out my old vinyl albums and do some big time reminiscing while listening to them. It was interesting hearing all the scratching and skipping on them. My teen years plus 30 plus years was a lot of wear and tear on them. My ten year old niece was here when I got them out and asked what they were. She did not believe me when I told her they were like CD's but older until I played them.
