No controversial/political/self-serving motives.

Just a question:

If a Vaccine comes forward in the next several months---will YOU have it?

I have a DW who has talked to me alot about this.

So, deferring to her, my vote is No.

I welcome all votes, and please----keep it "NICE".

Yes, as soon as I'm able to.

I get the influenza vaccine every year. I would wager that there is a high correlation between those who get an annual flu shot and those who will want a Covid-19 vaccination.

It will depend on measurements of the vaccine's efficacy. If it's effective,- and tested for safety- You betcha! If it's something untested- like shoving a light bulb up your butt, No thanks.

I was a 'Polio Pioneer' back in the 1950's= as was my DW. We didn't know if it would work- neither did our parents. But the Salk- (live) and later, the Savin (killed) vaccines for polio, saved millions of kids and made 'childhood' possible.

I'm with Jim ^^^. If it's safe and effective, why not? The Navy pumped me full of more vaccines to diseases and whatever than I've even heard the names of. What's one more?

I'm curious why OP says No?

Yes, but due to all the screwups in managing the disease so far, I don't wanna be first. The alternative is a very long self-isolation.

No. I've never gotten a flu shot. Probably should but have been lucky. I'll wait a few years to see if there are side effects to the C-19 vaccine. Then get it if recommended by doc.

I think the problem will be understanding its safety and effectiveness. That may not be known for months after the vaccine is available to the general public. In clinical trials with few participants, how safe it is may not necessarily be known. Once it is released to the masses, many more problems may crop up. I was reading an article the other day about swine flu vaccine in the 70s causing a lot of cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome. So if you want to ensure safety and effectiveness, you won't likely be getting it in the first few months after release.

. . . If a Vaccine comes forward in the next several months---will YOU have it? . . .
We will gladly get vaccinated as soon as a safe and effective vaccine is available.
However, I doubt there are even two chances that will occur "in the next several months."
Second half 2021 is an optimistic estimate. Sometime in 2022 is a more reasonable estimate.
OTOH, treatments to improve survival among hospitalized patients could arise much sooner.

The first year I ever got a flu shot was the year of H1N1. My doctor recommended it. I had no side effects and I've been getting flu shots ever since.

Probably eventually. Will not be among the first in line. I'll actually wait as along as is reasonable for me.

I get the annual flu shot as recommended by my doctor as I have a chronic condition that affects my immune system. So, once approved and then recommended by him I will get this vaccine too. Like the flu shot it likely won’t prevent 100% against getting the virus, but if it decreases the chances significantly It will make sense for me to get it.

Best regards.

Mike

As well as, the rest of your life. Thanks for sharing your personal, and sensible, experience, Jim.

I hope you’re improving. Take care.

Certainly. Get the flu shot every year and I expect the two will eventually be a combo shot.

Cheers

I would take it, but only if...
Dr. Fauci (or Brad Pitt) told me to.

NOTE: No politics intended, just humor.
