Hello everyone,

I’m planning a 7 day trip to NVC. I’ve been searching this site for previous trip reports to get ideas on what to do, but no go. I will be with 2 boys 10 and 14.

I’m thinking of a day trip to LA (Hollywood blvd), and Anaheim (not the biggest Disney fan by the way).

Planning to rent a car and it will be our first time on the west coast for a vacation.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Your boys are perfect age for all things Newport Coast has to offer.
The pool (s) and Beach -- accessible by shuttle -- can fill in any open spaces in your schedule.

Personally I wouldn't bother with Hollywood. One day at Disney, sure.
San Diego has plenty of attractions. I'd look that direction.

For our kids who were about that age the highlight of our Newport Coast trip was Santa Catalina Island. They loved the concept and reality of zipping around on a golf cart instead of a boring rental car (and loved the sights and restaurants as well). Crystal Cove State Beach and Disneyland were also winners.

Skip Disney and spend that $1000 on some boogie boards and skim boards. Then spend each day at a different beach skimmin' and boogie boarding. Aliso beach is a fave for both.
Go over to Newport Beach at the end of the peninsula and take the ferry over to Balboa. Walk all around the perimeter of Balboa and buy treats at the cookie and frozen banana shops on the main street, then ferry back.
There are some nice hiking trails in the canyons to the North and South of the resort.
Laguna has tons of cool stuff from shopping to tide pools.
