We booked the Infinite Ocean View Balcony on Icon of the Seas. My daughters prefer this stateroom because you get more space and they say we do not really use our balcony on vacations. Overall, it seems like a better fit for a family due to more space and option to convert to a balcony when you want to.

However, the downside I have heard from past cruisers who have experienced this cabin type on Celebrity is that the AC turns off when you open the window. I called Royal Caribbean to ask questions bc I was thinking we might move to the traditional balcony stateroom. The agent said that you can call room service and ask them to provide you with an AC controller and then you can keep the AC on even with the window open. I asked if this was published anywhere and he said no. He said he only knew through experience because someone asked him this question before.

Has anyone else sailed with an infinite balcony? If so, did you request an AC controller?

This is probably a question that no one really knows the answer to. Isn't this room type brand new to Royal Carribean on the Icon of the Seas? If so, it doesn't start sailing until January 2024. I guess the cabins on Celebrity are similar and someone who has sailed them there would know. You might be better asking your questions on Cruise Critic or some of the Facebook groups for Royal or even Icon.

Celebrity has this stateroom style so that is why I was wondering if anyone on TUG has sailed on this room type. On FB, no one has mentioned the AC controller. I guess I can ask there.

WHile more time consuming, I find YouTube videos to be a more practical source of info. You can even ask questions in the comments and the video creator may know the answer.

Maybe someone knows the answer to this question. How long does it typically take to walk from the elevator bank in the forward section to the elevator bank in the aft section? We are currently in an infinite balcony stateroom bc it offers the extra inside space. It is considered to be midship but it is right on the edge between forward and midship. There are none of these cabins left in the aft section where they family neighborhood is. I would need to switch to a traditional balcony stateroom. The new stateroom would be right by the aft elevator bank and that is right next to the family neighborhood. The family neighborhood is where all the action is for kids and families as well as the waterpark. I told the kids that it wold save a lot of time walking back and forth to move there but they do not want to give up the extra space. I am wondering what other cruisers think? Is it better to be close to the activities you will use the most?

To the OP, suggestion only go over to cruises critics website and you can read the pros and cons under Celebrity Cruises Lines on your question and concerns. The Infinite Veranda is the correct name of this ship category.

Please also read The Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines topics.

I may be dreaming, but can't imagine any cruise line willingly providing a hack so a/c can be used when window is open.

Yes that is what I am thinking too. I am going to switch to traditional balcony cabin tomorrow. I could not stand it if the room got too hot and we could not control it. I heard that between the sun directly hitting the cabin window and no AC when the window is open that it could become very hot.

Easy. Just open the slider to go out and come back in. Keep the outside outside and the nice a/c inside. The world and criuseline will be happy.

If you want a true balcony with Celebrity Cruises Lines on their new E Class ships you will need to book a Sunset Veranda Cabin or any Suite Cabin with Celebrity. These Cabins have their own private areas on the ship examples: their own relaxing lounge, pool and restaurant area. Plus, you will have your own private butler. They are Excellent. I will give a solid Ten Rating.

Celebrity Solstice and Millienuen Class ships all have true balconies and they are Excellent. IMHO

We had that type of Infinite Veranda on the Celebrity Edge, which was the first ship to have this "innovation".
There was no way to have one of us on the IV while the other slept in because the only way to darken the cabin was the shade that covered the veranda glass. The AC did shut off if veranda glass was in the halfway aka open position even if the folding glass "partition" separating the veranda from the cabin was closed. We chose a cabin layout with bed by bath which made it easier to access the IV vs. having the bed by the folding partition.
I can't speak to the RCCL ships, but for our 2025 Edge cruise, we have chosen a porthole veranda which has its drawbacks too in comparison to Celebrity's veranda cabins on the S and M Class ships. But we will have the ability to keep the cabin cool and dark and use the veranda if one of us is sleeping or wanting to enjoy the AC.
