I had to venture into a store today, been a while. But, by FIL needed distilled water for his CPAP and Walmart abruptly cancelled the delivery I had scheduled for today.
I thought about all options and chose our local independent pharmacy would have the lowest risk. In and out with 4 gallons, done. But, then I looked across the road at our local grocer and the lot was empty, maybe 15 cars in it. Last time I was there was 2 1/2 weeks ago, a Friday morning and the lot was overflowing.

I decided to go in and pick up a few things since Walmart bailed on me. It was 10am. I was one of maybe 20 shoppers in the store, it was stocked very well. Everyone except 2 people (workers and customers) had some sort of mask on. (yeah, I was one of the two without). It shocked and also saddened me that it was like that. I was one of those townies that stopped going there because the summer folks were coming in from NY and I was concerned the virus would be all over the place.

Being home, I watch the news, I follow local social media pages. A lot of it is about people are not following social distancing rules. My excursion today made me realize, at least in my little town, they are.

I think the very large majority are following social distancing rules. In the 3+ weeks since this has started here, I can honestly say I have not seen a single case of anyone not being respectful in their social distancing. If your only source of information on the topic is from news and social media, you get a very distorted view of the truth. Glad to hear your excursion outside your home went well.

In the last 2 weeks I've made 2 trips to the grocery store, my only outings. People here in a Minneapolis suburb are also being very respectful of others' space and taking great care. The store has installed large plexiglass panels by the check outs and put stickers on the floor to make off spaces. I'm purposely going to a smaller, more upscale grocer than my usual one because I knew it would be less crowded.

I went out today and wore a mask for the first time. Not fun. Gets hard to breathe after a while, and a little difficult to be understood. The store was not busy and had some of what I needed. Was not up to going to another store. I can get by a few more days. There has been a run on yeast for a month, so I won't be making my own bread any time soon. Was looking forward to that!

I was at a Ralph's store (large local chain) about a week ago. (Mask rule had not yet been announced.) I was one of a few without a mask and wow did I feel self-conscious. Next time out I used bandana scarf tied in back of my head. That was Saturday. Now I am awaiting delivery of a hand made mask from a friend, and I won't go out in public again until it arrives.

I complained on Nextdoor about touching my masked face more than my unmasked face (with gloved hands) because I was wearing a mask for the first time and my glasses were fogging up. Wondered if our rainy weather was the cause. Immediately someone linked to something on Huffington Post about doctors washing their glasses with soap and water, and that keeps them from fogging up for several hours during surgery. Now the trick will be to remember to wash our glasses before going out again next week.

I always wash my glasses with soap and water every morning. Never knew it would help keep them from fogging up.

It does help. Will help you clean your snorkeling mask, too. You could also spit on your glasses, but, well, you know... LOL!

Just got back from WalMart. The isles were marked with arrows, rare for someone to follow them. Half of the people were wearing masks. The people waiting for the ground beef was hilarious. Lots of people waiting to get close to the meat case. Two gentlemen were trying to decide what to buy for several minutes, and the crowd was growing near that meat case. Hams were plentiful. I bought one, but maybe they will be discounted after Easter and I should go and get another.

Rick liked telling people to go the right way down the isles. He pointed at the arrows. People were unaware of the markings. Rick is a guy who loves to joke with people, so he would say, "Hey, you are going the wrong way." He would smile. Everyone was in good spirits. We didn't wear masks. Rick was an EMT/Engineer on the Denver fire department for 40 years and doesn't want to wear masks to grocery shop. He has worn them too much in his lifetime.

The shelves were full, I found everything I needed, except Litehouse Ranch Dressing (I can make my own in a pinch) and sugar free International Delight caramel creamer (I never can find it at my local store).

They've been talking about making the grocery aisles one way around here. Already decided I'd do the event crasher trick of walking backwards when I need to. On bad back/leg days (and face it, I'm lazy anyway) I try to minimize my steps and I wouldn't want to go all the way around again if I realize I missed something when I got to the end of the one way aisle. Also would cheat and leave the cart (as long as it didn't have a scarce item in it) and go the wrong way alone without pushing the cart with me. Had to wait in line for fifteen minutes at Smart & Final yesterday while they were keeping store occupancy low. Cliff decided to move the car to a better spot, and the line started moving. I'd picked up asparagus and was at the bananas when it dawned on me he'd have to get in line again. I rushed up to the guys minding the door and told them my husband was stuck outside and he'd be pissed at me, but they laughed and said already waved him in on his word. Our bags couldn't even be on the conveyor belt, which was new. Cliff has been bagging our groceries for two weeks -- that's the highlight of his trip to the store!

I went to target today to pick up an rx; my first outing in 11 days. Wore mask and gloves. There were about 5 total customers in the entire store. No arrows. Picked up rx, grabbed a banana bunch, and spent about 3 minutes picking out Easter candy for the 2 kids who are still at home. Self checked (didn’t use a cart, brought my own tote) and out of there! Wiped down my bare skin with a Chlorax wipe before getting back in car. Packaged items are set away to decontaminate if needed.

Tomorrow I pick up a quarter honey baked ham for Easter.

I don't like wearing a mask either. But I wear one when I'm out around people. It's as much for their protection as mine. I could be carrying COVID-19 and not even know it.
