I last booked an RCI exchange with DVC (through RCI) in 2021 for a 2022 trip. We have done this almost every year (last year we did an anniversary trip to Hawaii). Anyhow, I had my ongoing search going and since nothing had hit (which was unusual) I reached out to RCI to learn that this was no longer possible! Noooooooo! This is all we used our points for. I am heartbroken. I happened upon this site in searching for a work around. Can someone educate me if there is an alternative to trading my Bluegreen or RCI points for DVC?

Sorry to hear you didn't know about this sooner. DVC is now only traded through Interval International (II).

I'm not sure what you mean by alternative. You could rent DVC points with cash through a company (such as https://dvcrequest.com/) or an individual. Unfortunately there isn't a way to convert Bluegreen or RCI to DVC at this time.

You can't trade via RCI for Disney anymore, but you can get close. The way to use your points for DVC is to trade for a non-DVC resort like Bonnet Creek or one of the many other Orlando resorts nearby. If it's Disneyland instead, put in a trade request for Wyndham/Worldmark Anaheim or Dophins Cove. Not quite, but life changes and adjustments have to be made.
Other wise, find a timeshare that trades via II and has enough trade power for what/when you want or rent from a DVC owner.

If I had it to do over again, I would have purchased DVC instead of Bluegreen, but that was 17 years ago. Are there sites that help owners trade points/bookings? In other words, what are the chances/avenues I could find a DVC member directly who would want a bluegreen or RCI stay in exchange for a DVC booking?

It sounds like you've done very well exchanging into DVC using your ownership for a long time. If it no longer works for you then dispose of it, you've had your value from it.
If you want to continue to exchange into DVC Orlando, and not rent, then a way ahead is to buy or get for free on TUG, a low cost II trader resort that is affiliated with II and then use that to exchange in II. If you go that way, ensure that the resort is outside of the Orlando area and ideally a platinum 2-bed lock-off, or you could look into points systems that trade in II.

DVC owners have avenues for renting their points, when they don't use them themselves.

Very very low.

DVC owners tend to be "Disney or bust" sorts of people. In general, they don't often want to go someplace that isn't Disney. Most Bluegreen destinations would probably not be of much interest to many DVC owners. What's more, it is pretty easy to rent DVC bookings for top dollar, and most DVC owners who understand this want something of similar value in return.

You should consider a Sheraton Broadway Resort or Sheraton Desert Oasis, two bedroom lockoff, fees are $1,600 or so, and you will get two exchanges for that one fee, when exchanging through II. II charges $229 for an exchange into Disney with a Sheraton. RCI was charging $299 last time I checked.

You could deedback your Bluegreen or RCI, whatever it is you were using, and get something new. I personally love trading into other resorts with my Sheratons. I have a lot of places to go other than DVC, and my trip in October, no DVC exchanges came through for us, even with our highest value traders, and January's trip, same thing. School breaks for the grandkids are not coming through via exchange. Summer will show up, but who wants to go to Orlando in the summer? Not me. May was bad enough this year.

Give this a try at least once before making any decisions about picking up a unit specifically for trading into DVC…what my family has learned is that there are definitely some really good choices. The only con being parking at the parks if you don't have an AP.

Welcome to TUG.

It's time to update your timeshare portfolio. You can buy a small WorldMark account for almost free. WorldMark is a point system that can get you Disney Vacation Club resorts whenever those resorts appear in II.

If you're sticking with RCI, then Wyndham Bonnet Creek is your best bet for WDW.

Thank you. Much of this is foreign territory for us as, like I mentioned, we've owned Bluegreen for 17 years and literally did the same thing almost every year (transfer to RCI, book DVC). So I'm afraid we are very green when it comes to "gaming the system" in any other capacity. I'm not sure why it was so easy for us to get DVC. We always put in the ongoing search in September/October for Summer Break the following year (and once for winter break). It was usually Saratoga Springs that came up, but we've also stayed at Kidani Village, Wilderness Lodge Villas, and our favorite... Boardwalk Villas. If it won't be so easy to do the same buying into a different resort so we can exchange via II, I'm not sure it's worth the effort. It sounds like maybe others have not had the same luck with II as I have with Bluegreen exchange with RCI to DVC. I wonder if there is any value in making a reservation with our 16k Bluegreen points via RCI to a desirable resort and then listing that on one of the rental places... I mean, enough value to then use the cash to rent DVC via one of the DVC rental sites? Anyone done this successfully? If so, which resorts/weeks should I be targeting to get top dollar?

I am intrigued by this. Do you mean buying this Worldmark account at salvage from someone trying to get rid of it sort of thing? Where would be the best site (or threads here) to educate myself on the Worldmark approach?

Not sure if it matters, but our points are deeded in Wilderness Club at Big Cedar in Missouri.

RCI has rules against renting out an exchange. That being said, many people do it anyway.

The only real way to be guaranteed DVC is to buy into DVC- as you already learned DVC can change the trading company- you may want to consider a resale contract but that’s a big jump from a “fire sale.”

I have had plenty of luck trading into DVC with II by following the sightings board here on tug, But again take a look at what you already have access to through RCI- we are a DVC family and we really enjoy the Club Wyndham at Bonnet Creek. My son and his fiancé really liked Vistana Villages.

We did stay at the Fountains the first year we had our timeshare before figuring out we could exchange with RCI to DVC. It wasn't bad, but it was a time suck to drive to the parks. There is also the added cost of rental, tolls, gas, and $30-$45 per day parking. But you're right, not the end of the world. Bonnet Creek looks nice and may be close enough to use Lyft instead of renting a car.

lol no idea where the Fountains is but even staying at DVC it’s still rental car gas tolls or some type of car service at least since the magical express ended…

After all those DVC trades, don't be heartbroken, celebrate your long run!

Wyndham Bonnet Creek would be a good resort for you to try. It is next door to the Caribbean Beach Resort and you can see it from the Hollywood Studios parking lot. Another RCI resort that is close to Animal Kingdom is Silver Lake.

If you want to get back into DVC without paying the DVC premium, you'll have to pick up a timeshare that trades in Interval.

Plenty of info can be found on this board to see if it is something you want to do.

You can exchange your BG ownership thru II.
You have to join II, BG will not pay for your account.
BG code in II is BLG.
You have to make a (triangulated) (reservation - the customer service people know what that is - and ask them to deposit the week in II for you. Not all BG resorts exchange thru II which is another reason you have to work woth customer service,
IMG_4470.jpeg

You then can search manually or set up an ongoing search.
I will attach a photo of what my II accounts looks like.
I did a quick search and found one DVC date

One question I have... do I need to research and make a reservation on Bluegreen First for a high value booking, then call customer service to exchange that with II? Or should I call customer service first and they will assist with using the points correctly.

The CS rep will suggest but spring fall summer Harbor Lights is a "silver rated" resort in II and trades well. Christmas mountain not great. Shenandoah summer okay but quality filters might block you from Disney and Marriotts. I used to reserve and deposit Hershey "gold rated in II" but BG no longer allows it.

The first thing you have to do is set up your II account. Take a three year basic membership. Once it is set up, then you call BG to reserve and deposit.
