I traded a 2BR for a 1BR at a great resort; can I ask them to use my 1BR for trade?

I am a bit confused about how this works sometimes.

I have two units at Resort A. One is a two bedroom and one is a one bedroom. When I looked at the units available at Resort B, I could see units available with both my one and two bedroom units. However, there were more dates available with my two bedroom (including the date I wanted).

I booked Resort B with my 2 bedroom unit at Resort A. Would it be possible to call and ask RCI if I could use my one bedroom instead of my two bedroom for the trade? Thanks for any help you can give . . . I do not always understand trading power, etc.

If you couldn't 'see' it with your 1BR then RCIs algorithms didn't allot enough trading power to the 1BR. That being said, a phone call may well get them to switch it for you, the worst they can do is say no.

I also get confused with trades. I have seen thru others posts that some trade/exchange 1 bdrms for 2 bdrms. I have a l/o so I understand that you can split, but how does that work when you get a 2bdrm for 1bdrm trade? Luck? Timing? I have only exchanged once with II. We had bought in Dec. so we only had about 4 months out to book, it went very smooth and we got into the resort in Mexico that was our 1st choice. Other than that, I am clueless.

In regards to trading power, I don't understand when everyone talks about how SVN deposits different weeks than what you own.

I hope to see many opinions and advice on this. I love this place. I have already learned so much, but still feel so behind.

I often get 2BR for my mid-level 1BR trader (in fact more often than not). I usually travel off season and I'm flexible with my dates. Some resorts only have 2BR units so if you get your exchange you get the larger unit. But I'm always willing to take a 1BR if that is all that I can get. Flexibility is the key.

In regards to trading power, I don't understand when everyone talks about how SVN deposits different weeks than what you own.

These two scenarios apply to Starwood resorts. With the first one, Starwood owners have a 3 day priority for other Starwood resorts when they are first posted on II's website. During those 3 days, you can ofter "see" 2 bdm. units with a 1 bdm. deposit.

Regarding your 2nd point - With developer purchases, Starwood reserves the right to choose the week you deposit. For the most part, they bulk deposit off-season weeks - but sometimes from very nice resorts. Why can they do this? Because it's in the contract you sign when you buy from the developer. Can they do this with resales that are not part of the SVN? Legally, probably not - but Starwood is very inconsistent about this and owners have reported varying results when they insist on depositing a week the owner chooses.

For lots more info. on Starwood, join us over on the Starwood board. :hi:

I know I called RCI to have them switch a unit I had on hold using Resort A, and even though I could not pull it with Resort B, the VC did the switch for me anyway.

Maybe it was just a good day!!

If you used Worldmark, it works a little differently (you are charged according to what you received, not what you gave), and if the trade was done within Flexchange you are charged a blue studio regardless.

Many times I've had a 2br and a 1br in the bank at the same time and deposited at the same time. Both traded exactly the same. In fact, I think RCI only has a minimal number of trade power levels based on my experience. If you have a really dynamite week you might be able to see another dynamite week as well (the ones they prefer to rent to the general public). I've also deposited similar weeks at one year out and at one month out. Both traded identically. I'm very disenchanted with RCI's trade power algorithm.
