As most of you know I am out on permanent disability due to my leg. When I went to the Dr my blood sugar was out of wack, scarey wackey. I had just started a work out program on my own, but this scared me so bad that I got a personal trainer. I absolutely refused to be bedridden!!

My goal was to hike Bushkill Falls. There was no way I could do the expert trail which had over 1200 steps but I did do the intermediate trail which still had a gazillion trips. Kelli was begging me not to do it but I asked her to stay with me and not take off and leave me. I took the cane and off we went. It took a long time because I don't do steps well. I rested when I needed to because my leg and back was killing me, but then I realized altho I was hurting, I WASN'T huffing and puffing for breath. That was a great feeling!! When I got done I let out a shout of joy!! Kelli was very proud of me, heck I was proud of me!!

I still can't sit too long or walk too far but I am making progress and I really enjoy working out. My trainer is very careful about my leg and elbow. After workouts he stretches my left arm and it is now almost as long as my other one and I can hold more weight (between 3 & 5 lbs) When I first started I could not hold any weight at all in my left arm. It was almost 4 inches shorter but now is almost even.

I hope I'm not being boastful , I am just so darn happy !!!:whoopie: shaggy

Keep up the good work!

Congratulations! Good Job!! I know how difficult it is to keep on going ...esp. when you are hurting. That is a great accomplishment!

Did you get your disability?

Shaggy -

I remember reading that you were trying to get disability on your own. Did you end up getting it the first application without an appeal or help of an attorney? Just wondering how it went.

Yep, I got it first time!! No appeal, no nothing. It finally starts in late Nov. My new Dr was flabbergasted. Admittedly, so was I. I see other people out there who need it as badly as me and sometimes I feel a little guilty but when I can hardly put one foot in front of the other or my back hurts I don't feel so guilty. I absolutely can not stand on concrete floors, I always rent a wheelchair in the mall or somewhere I have to walk any distance.

When I walked Bushkill I had to stop and rest several times because of my back and leg. I was praying I'd just get to the end. Worse yet, was the day trip to NY. I felt like I was holding the group up as I was walking so slowly because of the pain. Thank goodness there was another older gentleman who was moving as slowly as me. We made some pair!! I almost demanded my money back because we weren't told this was a walking tour. I was asking for drugs when we got back to the bus. I could hardly sleep that night because of the pain. shaggy
