"Whether you’re a native Carolinian or a visiting gourmand interested in our food traditions, you will enjoy our take on the dishes our area has known for generations."

I'll be a "visiting gourmand"!

I had never heard the word before. Maybe because I don't watch enough food and cooking shows or maybe because there's too much information out there and I just can't keep up.

I've always heard folks being referred to as "Foodies". Perhaps that is slang for Gourmand.

I was purchasing Event tickets for the annual Outer Banks Taste of the Beach, which is held each March over four days.

This fun food festival event features: wine tastings, cooking classes, special multi-course menu presentations, brewery tours, tapas crawls, cook-offs and more. There really is something for everyone! It’s four days of foodie heaven and lots of fun activities on the Outer Banks.

We offer over 60 events over the four days at over 30 different venues. Some events have more than one day or time they are offered.

Are you a gourmand?

We love this kind of stuff and always try to incorporate these types of events, restaurant/wine/brewery tours or cooking classes into our vacations.

The Outer Banks Taste of the Beach Events are fun and offer opportunities to enjoy great food and beverages. It's also a great time to see the beauty of the Outer Banks without the crowds. Rates are very reasonable, too! Picked up an extra vacation on RCI in a 3BR/3BA unit for less than $350 for the week.

I'm not sure that I'd want to be known as one.

From Merriam-Webster
:
1: one who is excessively fond of eating and drinking
2: one who is heartily interested in good food and drink

From Dictionary.com:
1. a person who is fond of good eating, often indiscriminately and to excess.

Sounds like a foodie to me, I rather be called foodie.

Just so we are clear ...

Gourmet - Someone with refined taste who appreciates good food.
Gourmand - Basically a synonym for a glutton (perhaps with a tendency to be a glutton with a preference toward fine food).

Nailed it!

Can you be a Gourmand with a refine taste and one whom appreciate good food without being a glutton? Because in the elegance restaurants of today food portions are must smaller than food portions say ten (10) to twenty (20) years ago.

I for one enjoy good food and fine wine. But I am not a glutton.

You may be a gourmet.
As I said, I'd rather not be known a gourmand due to negative connotations.

OTOH, I do not mind being labelled a "choco-holic" a/k/a "chocolate fiend."

Thanks to those who have set me straight on my journey. What I didn't know before, I do now. Knowledge is power.

Merry Christmas to all!
