I guess I am just not going to go to Florida in April. Broken arm, broken foot after an unfortunate fall in a parking lot on Maui

+1 regarding physical therapy.
When I was done with my cast and boot (after 10 weeks) I walked with a limp.
Before the broken ankle I could walk a mile.
Now, can't even go around the block.
Still doing PT twice a week. Glad my insurance pays 100%.

I broke my humerus bone, fractured my right arm. of course I am right-handed. I also ave a fracture in my left foot. These two breaks occurred after stepping in a hole at Maui Tropical Plantation. Landed on my right side. Hospital did xrays, gave me a boot for my foot and put an immobilizer on my arm. This happened Sunday. I am quite bruised. Black and blue eye, skinned right knee, and lots of other bruises. Vicodin is a godsend.

We were going to Disney next month. I guess that won't happen.
Hi Cindy, Take care of yourself. I'm in a boot as I type this after dislocating my right foot off the bone (dislocation of the talus= grotesque looking) in February in a scooter crash. Be patient. I only needed pain meds for a week. I've been eating low carb to speed up the healing process. I just resigned myself to chilling out for several weeks. The six week anniversary was a real turning point in my improvement. Let us know how you're doing.

What kind of hole? Might the resort be liable?

Hoping you have a speedy recovery but "pain and suffering" are measured by the minute.

Maui Tropical Plantation is not a resort.

Well, that doesn't exactly change anything. Whatever it is, it may have an obligation not to have holes that people can fall in and break bones.

Clearly, the devil is in the details but the circumstances might indicate that the organization has some civil liability and that Cindy is due for some compensation.

Maybe. Depends on where she may have been walking. On a path? Off the path. Only Cindy can tell us whether she feels she was totally responsible or whether the Maui Tropical Plantation is at fault.

It all depends on a lot of things. As I said, the devil is in the details. ". . . circumstances might indicate . . . ."

It was in a parking lot, Maui Tropical Plantation. I've seen worse parking lots on Maui. It was just unfortunate.

When we went on the sunset cruise on Pride of Maui, it was so dark and their docking and parking area was treacherous. With cell phone flashlights we could barely see where we were going. I didn't fall then. I fell in broad daylight.

I'm very sorry to hear about your fall, Cindy.

Falling is becoming a real problem as we age. I've fallen twice in the last couple of years, both times because I tripped on something. Nobody and nothing to blame but myself. Rib contusion was the worst result. I broke my fall with my hands but had my right elbow jammed into my ribs. I don't consider either fall to be age-related.

And it's not in my nature to watch every inch of the ground for holes. This was like a pothole, my foot twisted going in and landed on my right side. Now I understand why Disney's every surface is even. no holes in those giant lots.

Cindy. I don’t usually visit this forum, or I wouldn’t know of your injuries. Such a bummer. I know when I broke my foot in my 30s I was so tired in the beginning. Part of the healing process. So take care. Only travel as you see fit. Could the family manage without you in FL?

Near the sea.
We are a clumsy bunch aren’t we? I fell on a France trip before COVID and had a foot in a boot too. I didn’t see the downward slope and I was dragging suitcases to get to the train station.
I now try to watch where I’m walking and lift my feet more. Those doctors ask us at every visit if we fell during the past year.

Recently, DW stumbled backwards and fell on her rump in our BR. There were no injuries, but with Parkinsons, she can't get herself up. I had to call EMS for a lift assist, as I'm not able to lift her myself. It's happened before. Luckily, no injuries.

Why did she stumble this time?
She put her hand into her make-up drawer. What she found was a 4'-foot garter snake. Seriously. Neither EMS nor I saw a snake. We thought maybe she hallucinated. An hour later, I pulled out the drawer and there it was. I dumped the drawer on the ground and took a shovel to the snake. A few days later, I spread Ortho Snake-B-Gone around the house.

This happened 3/26, we left on 3/27 to start the trek home. We stayed at Hyatt in SFO, then got home on 3/28.

Our bed is the Costco Sleep Science Ara model, king. We can raise the back with a remote, and foot raises as well. So great to have that bed, bought 8 years ago.

We go to Florida next on 5/20. I cancelled our 4/16 trip.
