I felt so stupid

Ok, so yesterday morning was "turn back the clock" time. I did all my clocks and watches, except one watch that I was unable to adjust. I had just had a battery replaced, and the jeweler had evidentally pushed the stem in with a hammer or something, cause it was in so tight that I couldn't pull it out, not even with tweezers.

So I had to take it back to the jewelers this morning to have them help me with my problem (here comes the stupid part). I hand the lady who works there the watch, and tell her what the problem is. She takes the watch, smiles, and says, "The stem lock is on. That way if you accidentally get into the shower with it (who? not me), your watch will be fine." Turns out all I had to do is turn the stem 1/2 turn towards me, and it would pull out! Who knew?

And to relock the stem, I pushed it in and turned it three revolutions away from me. Then I smiled, thanked her, and told her I'd see her next Spring if I forgot!

I've had the watch several years, and never knew about this. The stem wasn't locked when I got it, and there was nothing with the watch to tell me about this feature.

I don't think taking it back to the jeweler was so dumb. Heck, stupid would be, "Hey, this stem is stuck, lemme get a grip with these BIG pliers".

If you haven't seen this you might enjoy it. I thought it was pretty funny.

That is hilarious! DH pulled a good one (unintentionally) on Sunday morning. I woke up first & went around changing all the clocks I could reach. I was sitting at the computer enjoying a cuppa' when DH came downstairs & didn't really pay attention to what he was doing. After he was out of the way in the kitchen I went & started some laundry, tidying up... I glanced at the clock a while later & thought I was making really good time & getting lots done. Then I went back to the computer to look something up & noticed the time on the screen. I went back to look at the kitchen clock & sure enough it was an hour behind!

DH didn't realize I had changed most of the clocks so he went around and set them another hour back!

BTW -Arizona isn't the only one not participating in daylight Savings - the province of Saskatchewan doesn't change its clocks either.

You're not stupid, not by a longshot. At least you made an attempt to get it checked by someone who knew what to do with it.

Years ago a friend asked if I'd help him clean out his sister's garage. (I had a pickup, so you can see where this is going...) As we're cleaning, I'm seeing all sorts of not-very-used stuff she was getting rid of, including a 10 gallon wet-dry shop vacuum. It looked new. I asked her about it, and she said it ran, but wouldn't pick anything up. I asked if I could have it, maybe I could fix it. She said that was fine with her - it was a piece of junk, and she wanted it gone with the rest of the trash.

After the garage was clean and I went home, I worked on the vacuum. I turned it on, and it did make a noise, but it was the kind of noise a vacuum makes when something is stuck in the hose. You know that sound. I looked down the hose, saw something, and pulled out a kid's sock. The vacuum proceeded to work perfectly, and I used it for about twenty years.

This reminds me of the time I took my car to my mechanic and said that I couldn't get the windows to go up or down when I used the controls on the drivers' door. He came out, looked at it and said, "Do you see this button with an 'x' on it? That locks the windows."

Watched a young lady trying unsuccessfully to get her car unlocked with the remote. I asked if I could help. She said, "Go ahead and try, this stupid remote won't work." I took the key, inserted it in the lock and opened the door. She was amazed. ;)

She wasn't a blonde BTW :D

Cheers

Fern, I don't see in any way that you were stupid. Let me join the group. A couple of weeks ago I had an eye Dr's appointment for a post-op checkup. The appt was on Thursday. I knew it was on Thursday because I had a minor conflict with something else. On Wednesday, I got in my car to go somewhere and instead drove to the Dr's! When I got there the Dr. was standing at the receptionist's desk looking thru a magazine. I said I had an appt and the receptionist said that I didn't. Of course, I immediately remembered it was the next day. The Dr was supposed to be in surgery but had to cancel because the patient hadn't stopped taking aspirin. He did my checkup then and I didn't have to go back the next day.

THIS is exactly what I would probably have done, figured I wasn't pulling hard enough or needed a big pair of pliers :crash:

#2 - More recently, after a day at Universal Studios, I tried finding our car in the garage by using the remote. Walked up and down. Nothing lit up and I got worried... We were standing in front of it, and I realized that I had been using the wrong remote.

Now THAT is funny! I always wondered if people used their remotes to try to find their cars. Turns out they do, I guess. But it doesn't always work :)

I've always said 'daylight savings time', but I've just read,
it is correctly 'daylight saving time'

Fern- I would have never known that either.

I felt so stupid today when I went to vote on a crucial town election where I have been very involved on the issues with local groups and so forth. I go to the polls before work and I take my time selecting the candidates. I put the paper ballot in the machine. I walk out, get in my car and drive away. Then it occurs to me- I never turned the paper ballot over to vote on the two crucial propositions!!!!

I can't tell you how much I knew it was imperative to vote on these propositions and when doing the ballot it totally left my brain! Maybe I am getting Alzheimers! I am so mad at myself!!!

I hate these paper ballots! I liked the voting machines where everything was right in front of your face. Not having to turn over the paper to see more issues to vote on. The election workers never pointed out that there are propositions on the back, nor was there anything in big black bold lettering on the front instructing you to turn over the paper ballot. Why they don't put the propositions on the front I don't know

Not making excuses, as this was totally stupid of me!! I know better! The thing is, I never even questioned it or looked for the propositions when I was filling out the ballot! I am the Dope of the Day!! I hope they pass, because if they don;t pass by one vote- I will know who is responsible...gulp...

I do that all the time. Get in the general area and keep hitting the remote - eventually I find my car. Maybe a plunger with a flag attached for the roof would be better.

And don't feel bad. After three years without any problem, who would know where the instructions are? Now the trick will be remembering all that for next year. But at least you can come back here and do a search for your post so you now have a permanent note.

This is as good a thread as any to tell a funny story about DD that happened this week. She is an adult. DH asked her for popcorn. She pulled out the air popper. The instructions on the jar of popcorn kernels said to put oil in the bottom of the electric popper, so she did. Then she poured in the popcorn and plugged it in. I guess it started smoking pretty bad.
Sort of understand. These days everyone makes microwave popcorn. We had not used the air popper for years. Of course, we can make popcorn the old fashioned way on the stove. Can the popper be safely used again? (I think not).

Alas no. It is at the end of its popcorn poppin' time.
