BIG SIGH. Just got a call, my doctor won't be seeing patients in person due to the spike in covid cases. No problem, happy to talk to her on the phone next Tuesday. Blah blah video blah blah. "I'll stop you right there" says I, "you are talking to a dinosaur, the phone is fine". Well doctor prefers video chat, load Zoom through the App store. So I trudge upstairs, find my Viking iPad cover that has the scrap of paper with the app password, and I seem to have successfully loaded Zoom to my iPhone. But why? Tell me what possible reason the doctor has for wanting to see my six pounds heavier face (good news the six pounds came the first six weeks of the shut down and has not increased). She has the blood work from two weeks ago, she'll have me take my own temp and BP (as she did Cliff a couple months ago), I already have a list of miseries to discuss with her, why does she need to see my face on her screen? Now I have to get dressed two hours earlier than usual!

I hope our new doctor who we have never met- a second doctor because the first - the one we chose- is gone- does not cancel our new patient appts. again. Already had 2 cancelled due to the hospital furlough. We really need to have blood work and get referrals for tests and specialists.

I have a dentist appointment this morning and I just got a text from their office. It said I should wear a mask and call them when I arrive before coming into the office. They said the cleaning process would be modified to reduce aerosol, and also that a $10 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) fee of $10 will be added to the appointment. When my daughter had her teeth cleaned a couple of weeks ago she said they didn't do the polishing at the end of the cleaning, maybe because of the aerosol?? So I have to pay more for less service is what it amounts to, I suppose.
I went for my usual cleaning to my dentist. Sign on door to either call from my car or knock on the door. Knocked and they came and took my temp. and gave a small cup of mouthwash to take and then hand sanitizer. Cleaning and polishing was like normal then the dentist checked my teeth. Charged regular rate, nothing extra. This is in Santa Clara, Calif.
A week earlier I had a colonoscopy appointment which the hospital called to give an appointment time for a Coronaviros test in the back lot of hospital which was drive-thru and negative result given on phone the next day.
Wore a mask and my wife was allowed in waiting room. Went real smooth and except for wearing a mask before and after it was same as always.

The preference for Video may have to do with billing. I think there are special rules in place to allow medical practice to bill a video call the same as an office visit. Its possible the insurance company won't reimburse for a regular phone call.. Not sure, but that is my guess.
