amex is pretty good about reversing charges immediately upon opening an investigation.
thats not to say they wont complete the investigation and put the charge back...but ive yet to call them to dispute and not have them immediately remove the charge.
Thanks for your additional input.
I did not want to start an off topic discussion, I am simply ADDING to the wealth of advice and suggestions to what has already been given to the original question.
My suggestion, again, is to immediately contact your credit card company and inform them of a dispute. This certainly does not take the place of sending the timeshare company a rescission letter or other steps necessary to get out of a timeshare contract.
Most states have a specific number of days where the buyer can get out, but all too often the timeshare company immediately puts a charge on a credit card and if the card is near the end of the billing cycle (i.e. last day of the month), then the charge will show up on the monthly statement.
It is my OPINION, that making a pre-texting call to your credit card company is a wise thing to do in addition to other required steps to cancel a timeshare contract.
Honestly, I am confused why so many people would want to challenge me on this issue as I have fought a few aggressive merchants in the past 20 years or so with my American Express and 100% of the time they rule in my favor.
If you want to ignore my advice, that's fine, but better get ready to pony up the cash to pay your credit card or you will incur even more expenses in interest payments. I personally believe fighting a charge BEFORE it hits on my statement is way better than challenging it after it is printed. Besides, the sooner you challenge the payment, there is a possibility of preventing the money from being transferred to the timeshare company.
