I use MAC cuz the DW converted to Mac back in 12/03. She is amateur photographer and decided that the MAC gave her the best opportunity to work with photos. She was a long time user of pcs.

She now uses the MAC Pro with two monitors. One is the largest cinema display and the other is the 20 inch display purchased with the G5 in 12/03. The G5 is now my machine and I use my 52 inch hdtv lcd display as my monitor.

Many of you have seen the photos that I have posted. Many if not most were taken by DW. I have become an avid photographer cuz I have such a good instructor.

The reason for this post is that many of you are using macs for both its ease of use and because of its capabilities with photos and or music. I have posted about this subject before. Those of you who enjoy their photography should check the following program out.

http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/overview/

Don't let the web page fool you. Yes, it produces amazing results for the professional photographer. It does the same for us pure amateur amateurish photographer. It is absoultely incredibly easy to use. The program is available for a free 5 day demonstration period. DW and I have the program on both MACs cuz the licensing allows us to do it.

DW makes some incredible movies with our vacation pics that is accompanied by the music she selects from our own collection of music on ITUNES. Friends and neighbors have always enjoyed viewing them and come back for more whenever she puts one together. I made a 25 minute movie of my hs class reunion from the pictures that DW took during the reunion. This was my first attempt to make a movie. I also added music to the movie that was relevant to our times. I was able to place the music in just the right places and the last song I used was Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman". Naturally, the last photo in that sequence featured my DW. I burned the movie to dvd and sent copies to the attendees. I received nothing but praise for this dvd.

Why am I telling you about this product? If you like your photos, you will love the way this program will enhance the experience of viewing your photos.

When you make the dvd, the movie will play on your present day dvd player and tv, no matter what type of TV or dvd players. It will play on a computer if the puter has Quicktime loaded on it.

If you have any questions about it, please feel free to pm or email me. Just for clarification, the only interest I have in this product is the fact that I think it is a great way to present our photos.

I would like to own a Mac someday, but it's a cost issue for me.

Why pay $$$$ for a Mac, when I can get a PC, that does all I need for $?

Rick,

I am not trying to convince anyone to switch to MAC. I understand your sentiments completely.

The only purpose for my post was for those who use MACs and also are into photography.:)

My husband has always disliked Mac. However, he just told me we might have to purchase one so that it will work better with his Iphone. I'm still in shock.

Dear Steve,

I use a Mac. The first step is to admit it. The second step is to admit I'm powerless to my addiction. The third step is to admit I can't help myself by posting how much better the Mac is at everything.

...

(with apologies to friends of Bill W)

Anyway, that's what I thought this thread was about after reading the title.

Have never used a Mac, but with my new iPhone am thinking about giving up my pc for a Mac. Glad to hear what it can do with photos.

Glad to hear you're so happy with your Mac, Geoand - I'll have to look at the pics someday! Macs are the platform of choice for many people into video editing, graphics, photos, and music.

A Mac (not MAC) can do everything a PC can do, and often do it more easily, more seamlessly, and with more fun.

The reasons for this are (to give the short version)
1. the operating system and hardware are designed together so they work better together than systems with separate designers.

2. the software is usually designed to follow a consistent interface developed by Apple, so there is very little learning curve when switching between different programs

3. files are stored in formats that allow a lot of compatibility, so it's no biggie to drag something from one type of program (e.g. spreadsheet, photos) to another (e.g. word processor, internet).

Arguments against Mac used to focus on limited software availability (no problem unless you are using something really specialized) and lack of compatibility with PCs (no problems b/c most programs on both platforms can now import/export from/to other formats, and the biggies - i.e. MS Office - is on both platforms).

MS Windows is a copy (albeit a 20 year old copy) of the windows/menus/mouse interface first widely used by Apple's Macs in 2004. Having used, programmed on, taught, and consulted on both since each came out (83 and 84), I'm sold on Macs and can't imagine wanting or needing a PC for my own use.

If I needed a program that was ONLY on a PC, sure, or if I was happy with the PC environment and didn't see the need to spend more, sure - but neither is the case for me.

David, thank you for the laugh.:D I have to confess that putting words together to express what I am thinking has never been one of my strengths.

I am addicted to TUG. DH is addicted to his Macbook which he has had for 2-3 years and his new 3g Iphone. You can do so many more things with ease.

He also made a mini movie of our son's college graduation and added music and applause.

I love my Macs. Sometimes I do have to try Firefox when Safari doesn't work.
