Will it be doable on Monday or will it be clogged with people evacuating the gulf?

I would be more concerned about the elevated section over the swamps past Baton Rouge ... it blew over in Katrina, didn't it ... and that will be on the heavy rain side?

Think you better stay put, til the weather is clear.

Just MHO,

It will not be clogged with people. Most residents will be gone or hunkered down, but you may find your way blocked by the National Guard past Pensacola. This projected track: http://tinyurl.com/5qzo7e, shows landfall on Monday. Personally, I advise against attempting to drive thru a hurricane.

Thanks. DH and DD have decided not to wait until Monday. They plan to leave Sunday afternoon to make the drive. Hope all goes well for them.

I suggest that they fill a couple of gas cans and a cooler with food+drink, as finding open stations+restaurants may be problematic.

Plan B

DH called this morning. They were just sitting down to breakfast and then planned to head out. They will drive to Mobile and then head north to I-20. At Shreveport, they'll head down to Houston. He said he doesn't plan on letting the gas tank get below 3/4 tank. He's hoping for more fuel and food availability on I-20.
