It's a bit of a walk to Smathers Beach from Windward.

But it's a REALLY NICE WALK.

I used to bike to Windward every day when I worked there. People would complain about the lack of an exercise facility.

Me: "Seriously?!?!?" [waves hand at the South Roosevelt Boulevard].

Where did you work? Windward Beach or the beach?

Does the Hyatt Windward Beach still not have an exercise facility?

Windward didn't when I left Key West. I don't remember if Beach House or Sunset Harbor does.

Regardless, I think the very idea of an exercise room when North/South Roosevelt Blvd. or Mallory Pier is right there is ridiculous. What kind of barbarian wants to exercise inside when they have that, right outside? Before the effluent problem got bad, my typical answer was, "The warm water of the Gulf of Mexico isn't good enough? I swim there nearly every day -- with a speargun. Exercise AND dinner. What's not to like?

Key West is really not a beach destination. There are several beaches, Smathers, Higgs and Simonton. If you go to Bahia Honda there is a good beach there.

i checked out Bahia Honda…it’s stunning

In general, "what's under the surface" is more interesting. At least that's how it used to be when we had a thriving coral reef. I don't know how the reef is faring these days. But since Reef Relief is still functioning, I'd have to think there's something worth saving down there.
