I couldn't find a previous thread.
If I sign over a week via a guest certificate, is there any liability that could splash back on me? For example damages to the unit.
Recently purchased, the previous owner by agreement has use to the points this year and the reservation this seller made prior to closing, transferred into my name per Hyatt rules. Hyatt suggested using a guest certificate, and will waive the cost. Which is all good, but I wondered about any potential liabilities.

You as the registered owner still bears the responsibility for damage on a guest certificate. Perhaps with a written and agreed to statement between the 2 of you would be helpful to you.

Clarification: At check-in, the resort is going to run the guest's credit card for incidentals and any damages.

If you have rented to a rock band or biker gang or a rugby team, it's theoretically possible that they could do damages that could max out the credit card, but in reality, intentional damages are almost unheard of in timeshare rentals at quality resorts.

That being said, you should have a copy of the previous owner's rental agreement, and all of the contact info for the renter, just to be business like.

I have done many rentals, and in all my years of experience, just one guest left an extra big mess, and the resort charged their credit card for additional cleaning services.

If there were a lot of rentals being damaged, we would hear about it here on TUG.

Great info. Being new to this, I just wanted to do a little due diligence, doesn't seem like much exposure at all as the guest was an owner himself. Thanks!
