Curious if anyone is there and a status update? Voluntary evacuations underway per news this morning. I'm riding it out at Grand Vista and seeing the parking lot fill up.

We're scheduled to check in on Saturday, so I've been paying close attention.

Storm surge is projected at between 4 and 7 feet on Marco island. For reference, I believe Ian was about 7.5 feet, and Helene was about 4 feet.

So much depends on where it makes landfall, and the timing of the storm surge in relation to high tide. I'm very thankful we didn't check in on Saturday the 5th, as on Friday night the storm wasn't expected to even become a cyclone and was just supposed to bring a lot of rain -- if I was on island, I would definitely be evacuating right now.

We'll likely end up cancelling, but are waiting to monitor how things develop.

Yeah, the Orlando resorts will fill up. I noticed this when we stayed at Sheraton Vistana Villages during Hurricane Ian. When people evacuate, they tend to go toward Orlando.

Walt Disney many, many decades ago purchase land in Orlando because hurricaces rarely hit Orlando.

Certainly Orlando won't be impacted as much as the coast. Though there will likely be localized flooding. I know during Ian there were parts of Kissimmee under water. There are also some areas in the parks that flood and they've had situations where even sewage has backed up making for some areas of parks to have to be closed off. This can sometimes happen just during a heavy thunderstorm.

It is important for people, even inland, to go out and clean off storm drains. Also, don't park your car near a storm drain. If that drain backs up your car is likely parked in one of the lowest places and will quickly have water up the door panels. When we were at Sheraton Vistana Villages during Ian, I parked at as high a point as I could find. There were areas of the parking lot where the water got as deep as the floor panels of many cars.

Good luck. We are scheduled to check in for 13 nights on 10/19. We had to cancel two years ago after Ian because the gulf front villas were still out of service.

Please post any resort status updates for those of us who don't have facebook. The resort page provided few updates after Ian and it was difficult to find sources for information.
I don’t go on Facebook much but I just had a look for you and it is directing people to the hub.
Since the resort is closed there is no on site reports.

The HUB is certainly not a good place for current information. Facebook won't provide many details since no one is actually at the resort as it is closed. I also find that MVW won't provide updates in Facebook Groups and it takes them days to weeks to communicate anything out. Whether via email or the HUB.

You can actually view the Facebook page that MVC runs for Crystal Shores without having a Facebook account. Just X out of the sign in box to view it.

Do you have a link to the page. I can't seem to bring it up in a search.

I don't have a Facebook page either, but I find most, if not all, of the MVC resort Facebook pages are not password protected to view.

Thanks. I have Facebook, but for some reason I tried searching for the Crystal Shores page and it wouldn't come up. Now that I am following it, I am getting recommended all the other MVC resort pages.

Looks to me the most recent post was from Oct 7th. That said, there are various private Facebook groups for MCS....perhaps somebody posted the letter posted in post #7 above to one of those groups.

OK Thanks
I withhold any comments I have about the need to rely on private FB pages to get current info on the state of Marriott resorts
Or the fact I use TUG to get the current status of these resorts

I suspect it was an email sent out to owners with impacted or possibly impacted reservations. Or perhaps people staying on site at the time. I can't find any Crystal Shores Facebook Groups. It seems my Facebook searching ability is not very good.

So where exactly is this being posted? I don't see it on their official Facebook page. Perhaps in one of the groups? I requested to join a few of the ones that were in the Google search results that @Fasttr posted.

That info came from the HUB...just recently updated.

As of 4pm, the power outage map is showing power outages for about a third of total accounts in Collier County. From the news I've been able to see, there doesn't appear to be widespread damage on Marco Island, but Crystal Shores is at the Southern end so perhaps it will take more time to get power. We are supposed to check in on 10/19 and hope they do a better job this time regarding the condition of the resort and the likelihood of cancellations. This will give people time to cancel reservations to find alternative uses for the points. I will monitor the hub, but after Ian the updates were infrequent and unhelpful, and owners services were of no help. Our reservations were four weeks after Ian but we had to cancel due to the uncertainty and lack of information. The roads in the area all appear to be open according to google maps. The only red area is on Collier adjacent to Crystal Shores, so part of the road there may be flooded. I wouldn't be surprised if there is water in the lower garage, but I doubt that water entered the lower pool area. Ironically, the upper pool is closed for maintenance.

The group I was referring to is called Marriott Crystal Shores -you have to request to join it is a private group.

Last post today said power was still out at 2:45 and updates would be posted on hub.
