I just bought a timeshare in Playa Del Carmen for 2 weeks a year through Sandos resorts, w/ Holiday Systems International as part of it... I paid a total of 10K, incl. 20 extra weeks over the 25 yr. contract. I'll be paid off in full in 4 yrs. Please help w/ some experience w/ HSI. I have till tomorrow to cancel the contract. I don't feel like I've been scammed, so outside imput will really help. Thanks a ton.

Did you buy from the developer?

Have you seen all the Mexican timeshares on ebay for $1?

If you bought from the developer - you paid too much and probably way too much.

If you have any doubts, rescind, do your homework, and buy RESALE when you feel that you understand the market for this area completely.

Good luck!

Anyone I know who bought HSI has never been able to use it. They can never get anything they want. If you bought from the developer was it an exit package? That'e usually where they sell the HSI package

Thanks for your help Joe - I couldn't help with HSI, but I am more concerned about her buying from the developer.

I did buy from the developer. I wonder if ANYONE ever has had an okay experience w/ HSI.
I'll cancel it tomorrow. Thanks for the advice. That being said, who loves what timeshares the best??

Just remember when you rescind, do so by reading and re-reading your cancellation terms, and then following them to the letter. Failure to cancel in the way specified in the contract can give the resort the excuse they need not to let you out of the contract. Such a mistake can prove very costly.

Also, keep copies of all correspondence for your records...it's best to play it as safe as possible. Let us know how it turns out for you.

Then, if you really liked that resort, do some research into buying resale. Good Luck!

I just want to clarify that it's my girlfriend, JL, who is asking for help in case you have noticed why I would be asking about it if I had already owned some timeshares. I was not familiar with HSI and given that she only has one more day to rescind it, I let her type her question here cuz I don't know anything about HSI at all or even ever heard of it. Thank you all for assisting her in this matter. She is definitely interested in owning a timeshare and I told her it's a good time to buy from resale. :D

Thanks for letting us know! I was wondering why an experienced Tugger would buy from the developer  - that explains it! The resorts in Mexico are notorious for dragging their feet when buyers rescind - she will have to be proactive. If she has problems rescinding, there's lots of info. on the Mexico Board.

Is 'dragging your feed' a Mexican term? :confused:Maybe the horse's feedbag broke? I know several experienced Tuggers who have bought from "the developer." All with very valid reasons.

Thanks for your helpful critique - I will go correct my typo right now! :hi:

(BTW - I accidentally clicked the edit button, instead of the quote button under your post above, but I didn't edit your post - there is no way to get rid of the "last edited notation" that I know of.)
