How to use an app at Gas Stations. and Drug Store?

How many people use an app when buying gas or paying for medicine at the pharmacy. How do you fund your account, so that you don`t need to pay by cash or credit card at point of sale

Please explain how the following Apps work.

Exxon

.Many years ago we had a Speedpass, keychain with radio-frequency identification. Now days, everything is an App. - How do you use the Exxon Mobil Speedpass app?

At the station, launch the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app and select “Pay now” to begin the transaction. You will automatically earn Exxon Mobil Rewards+ points on all fuel and car wash purchases made with the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app.

Shell

Shell Fuel Rewards sent an email that stated our 5 cent a gallon discount will be good until the end of the end. We normally pay cash inside the store. - How do you use the Shell Fuel Rewards Card app

Visit a participating Shell station and swipe your Fuel Rewards card (at the pump)
The Fuel Rewards® program is a free loyalty program that helps you save money on fuel at Shell Gas & convenience stations, nationwide. Fuel Rewards members with Gold Status save at least 5¢gal on every fill-up.

CVS

Just downloaded the CVS app - In the meantime,
we will just use the drive thru and pay for prescriptions using cash or credit card.
Really don`t want to have to go inside and take a chance of getting sick.

Drugs store & Grocery store pharmacies need to look into having their own entrance & not make people walk thru the entire store to pick up medicine and other health supplies..

Stay Safe and Always wear gloves when paying for your purchase.

This is not likely to happen for a short term problem. Use delivery, curbside pickup and drive through.

I don't use any of those apps.

Why not Prohibit Self-Service at the Pumps To Promote Safety for Others

Why doesn`t the government help the economy and help people make a pay check as gas station attendants by passing a law that prohibits self-service gas or at least designate a percentage of service station pumps as self-service

Oregon allows self-service gas stations in counties of less than 40,000 people but maintains prohibitions everywhere else in the state.

Salem, Ore. – You can now pump your own gas at the gas station in Oregon, to help with social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic. But you don’t have to pump your own gas. Attendants can still work and pump it for you. The State Fire Marshal’s office says the new rule is in effect for two weeks, until April 11th. 2020.

New Jersey the only other state in the union to prohibit self-service gas stations.

I'm not sure if this directly applies to your question, but one thing I do a lot these days is to use my cell phone to accomplish contactless transactions. For that, I use Samsung Pay. I have found this app has worked in many places. I should note that I use an Android phone.

I'm not sure that would help much in reducing pandemics but it would increase gas station labor costs

We don't have any apps set up to pay for things but rather just "tap & go" with our credit card. Most credit card machines in Canada are chip enabled and the tap feature lets you hold your credit card chip area very close to the reader and the charge goes through without the card being inserted into the machine or you needing to type a pin number in. The card never leaves your hand or touches anything. Every gas station/ store/ company can set the limit to the amount that can be charged like that, typically $25 to $100. However within the last few weeks many have raised their limit to $100 or much more to stop the possible transmission of germs by touching the key pad. We have alerts set up with our credit card company so we instantly know when our card is being used and can freeze it or call in if it wasn't us, which thankfully has never happened to us.

Chip enabled is not necessarily enabled to pay with NFC (what you are talking about.) They are separate technologies. I have many chip cards that can't be used by tapping, but not vice versa (NFC cards that don't have a chip). A chip alone is not enough, you need a symbol similar to this on your card:

FYI, it should work anywhere they accept contactless payments, ie. Apple pay, Google pay, or Samsung pay. I have Samsung pay on my watch and love it. And most Chase ATMs now let you use your phone or watch (with pin) if your debit card is stored. You can even open the door for those indoor ATMs at night and weekends.
