booked an II exchange for wkorvN. Is it possible to extend the stay for 1 additional night? If so, any idea of costs for the additional 1 night or best alternatives for a single extra night.

You can extend your stay by renting from an owner, or directly from the resort, but you probably won't be able to stay in the same villa.

I have used Starpoints to rent an extra night or two. I think they changed the category since I last used that option. It now costs around 20,000 points. A little expensive but an option if you have lots of Starpoints.

With Cash & Points it would cost $150 + 8,000 points/night.

This all assumes you are using the studio. They might even let you stay in your room if they are not too busy.

An IV studio rents for $349, a 1BR for $509, directly from Starwood.

Check at www.spg.com for the details.

Is this for the end of your trip? If so, what time does your flight leave?

We usually have to add a night or two on to get better airfare, so we use Priceline and have gotten the Hyatt and the Sheraton for about $150/night. Cheaper than WKOR, gives you a different experience, and chances are you would have to change rooms anyway at WKOR.

If this is at the end, and you have a redeye flight home, I would book 2 nights instead of one. That way, you can stay in your room until 8pm and not have to store your bags. We have a toddler, so it makes things much more convenient for us.

When we have a red eye return, we spend the day at the Maui Ocean Center. Once that closes we drive back to Ka'anapali and have our last dinner at Lelani's or the Barefoot Bar, before heading back to the airport. Of course, we don't have kids with us.

We have a similar situation with an upcoming stay (at a different brand). All of the different options we've pursued that would give us even a chance of staying in the same unit were cost prohibitive (as expensive as the full week we exchanged into), so we're likely going to be switching to a hotel for our last night.

One thing we'll do is we'll make sure the hotel unit is a cancellable reservation, and when we're on the resort we'll see if we can do a timeshare presentation in exchange for an extra night's stay in our same unit. If we can, the presentation will be well worth the time and frustration.

For those who book hotels, does the hotel allow you to check-in early? With a check-out of 10am at WKORV and most hotels having a 3pm check-in, I'm not sure how that would be all that helpful.

interested in this topic...

Our friends are staying in our WKORV OF studio in 2012 (Sun-Sun) next October - and are looking for staying Fri-Sat nights as well. I was surprised to see the SP cost (20K per nite) for a WKORV studio (where Westin and Sheraton hotels are much less) - and think WKORV rents are ~$350/nite (and that doesn't include very high taxes which puts it closer to $400/nite)

any other ideas?

David,

Wotif.com rents rooms at Starwood hotels at a discount, but they don't get inventory until 60 days out, IIRC.

Check if Cash & Points is available on spg.com for those specific dates.

You could get an Island View studio for 8,000 SPG points + $150, which might be more palatable than 20,000 SPG points or $400...

They appear to have dates loaded to Oct 9th right now.
