We stayed at Maui Schooner (MS) last January (non owners) and while there made an exchange with TPI for 2 weeks in Jan. 2020. One week is in a 2BR. At that time I asked the front desk (FD) if they would note that we wanted a 2BR w/o a loft, either bldg. They noted it.

Last week I called MS and asked if they would be able to honor our request. The lady I spoke with said we had been assigned to a 2BR with a loft. She told me that I should call TPI and that they might be able to help us. WRONG advice. I called TPI and they said they give us whatever an owner deposits and they cannot make any changes. Period.

So yesterday I called MS again and spoke to the FD employee, might have been the FD manager, and asked about our request. She said: Yes, we have you assigned to a 2BR on the first floor in the B bldg. Bingo! Awesome! :) We got lucky.

Moral of the story is to put your request in with the FD as early as possible and do NOT bother calling TPI.

PS A shout out to slip for sharing his experiences with me at the MS.

Awesome, I’m glad that worked out for you. We made a reservation for 2021 in May and I was able to get a 4th floor unit in the A building but we are owners.

I stayed there once. Got a lousy unit with a loft, a useless lanai, and the entire view obstructed by a palm tree whose fronds blocked everything, including the light. Parking was terrible, and I was not impressed. I really hope owners have a better experience.

Wow. I'm guessing you in were Bldg A which has ocean views. How unfortunate that you had a tree blocking your view.
The lanais are fine, in general. But we really enjoy the B bldg so we can people watch and be close to the pool.
Parking can be an issue but I've never not found a spot.

We aren't owners but enjoy exchanging in.

Not sure what building it was. The way I remember it was there were air conditioners on the lanai, blowing hot air across it. It was like sitting in an oven. Not a good experience. :)

it’s been a few years, so I’ve kind of blocked the experience. LOL!
