The state of Massachusetts shared this video. Tips pulled from the video if you don't want to watch it all:

NOTE: There was an correction noted to the original video to change virus on cardboard not 1 hour - but 1 day.

HOW TO DISINFECT GROCERIES

  • Sanitize a table before bringing groceries inside
  • Establish a dirty side of the table to place groceries that are coming into the house, and a clean side to place items after they’re sanitized
  • Use a household disinfectant spray or wipe
  • Disinfect plastic, glass and metal packaging
  • Trash unnecessary and external packaging like cardboard boxes that have plastic bags inside (the plastic bags inside boxes should be OK without additional disinfecting)
  • Some items, such as bread or chips can be dumped directly into clean plastic containers without touching them - or just disinfect the packaging
  • Clean fruit and vegetables that are not bought in plastic bags by dumping them into soapy water, and then washing/scrubbing each piece for at least 20 seconds
  • Reusable grocery bags should be considered dirty after use; plastic bags should be thrown out

TAKE-OUT SAFETY

  • Sanitize a table before bringing in take-out food
  • Establish a dirty side of the table to place the take-out bags that are coming into the house, and a clean side to place items onto plates
  • Dump food from inside their packages onto plates without allowing the item to touch your hands or the outside of the package
  • Microwave hot food before eating

I saw this video. Only question is that I thought we were not to bring the bags in the house. Also couldn’t we let boxed goods sit outside or in garage for a few days

I just got my slippers ordered on Amazon. Made in China, of course. I took them out of the box and put them on.

I also got a pair on tongs from Amazon- also made in China. I took them out of the packaging and washed them. I need them to reach into my deep drum washing machine to get the clothes out.

I realized that deep drum problem when I purchased a new washer this past year when I moved. Don’t these manufacturers realize many can’t reach the bottom?

I did find one, a top open, that I could reach the bottom.

That’s what I was doing and I said this is not going to cut it. Then it dawned on me- get something long that can grab the clothes.

Yes! Mine is a Top Loader also and when I ordered it from the builders’ GE rep I didn’t realize how deep it was! I have short arms and legs - but a long torso- but I was struggling to reach the bottom! Lol!

Of course my other one wanted the deep one saying he would always empty it for me, sure, I knew better, knowing I would always hear I am too busy.

I am not disinfecting groceries or deliveries to my home. I think that is being rather extreme. I will take the risk. I can’t upend my life completely. I need some sense of normalcy. So far, so good.

We had not been doing any of this. After watching the video I think we'll be making some changes. Heck, we all have the time to be doing this.

Yes, I have been wiping everything down with disinfectant wipes this week, but still worried about the shopping cart. Self check out would be good too.

Yeah he says that at the beginning. The video is only for stuff that's supposed to be refrigerated, frozen, kept hot, or if you're planning to eat it right away.

Agree that it's better to just leave whatever you can in the garage or on the porch or some place to 'disinfect' a few days on it's own.

Are you sure you are not my husband?
My other half loads and unloads the dishwasher, does his own laundry and cooks most of his meals himself. The dust can accumulate, the mold in the shower can stay and crumbs can be everywhere and it doesn’t phase him. If I ask he will vacuum.

I even have a hard time reaching the stuff at the very back of our front loaders and I am fairly tall (5'11").
