Fight club!

We take our own beach towels because there are much nicer snorkeling spots, but the lagoon is a good place for beginners to practice.
Oh, it goes well beyond beginners. mrs. brp is a certified divemaster and she loves the lagoon pool since we can walk there and there are always plenty of fish and usually sea turtles.

Cheers.

To add information to BRPs image, the sunny peninsula to the right of Lagoon Grill is where the sandy beach is you can enter the lagoon for swimming and snorkeling.

You may think the ocean side would also have a sandy beach but it's all white broken up coral, no sand.

for me to choose BI: where on BI is there a beach with sand & decent ocean bottom, not jagged rocks , where people can actually swim 400 - 500 yds?
and not by swimming 20 yds B&F B&F B&F 10x. I have heard of Hapuna. Does it fully fill that desire?

Hapuna is wonderful. Yes, you can swim 400 - 500 yards if you want. The beach at the Mauna Kea Hotel (Kaunaoa Beach) , which is right next door, is also wonderful.

Thanks. Awesome beach that. That 1st one is Hapuna?? I had pictured Hapuna not having loungers on it. Not that it matters because that pic doesn't show any crowding problem.
I've had spending a week at Kings and & Bay Club in my thoughts,, but we've spent so much time outside the USA the last couple years that it hasn't happened. That photo makes it a go.
I could even see an extra week at Paniolo Greens (I think it is) since that is even closer to Hapuna I think. With a beach like that, heck with a fancy lobby. Give me a bed, the beach, goggles and plenty of sunscreen.
Now what is the best place to buy a bag of coffee nr Waikoloa?

Since the Hapuna Beach Hotel is there I imagine they put out the loungers. When we've gone we are usually at the end where there are not loungers.

Can't help you with the coffee. We've usually gotten beans at one of the coffee farms.

not on that island I wouldn't. BTW, what are those white things in the lagoon, right side, with 3 or 5 legs, 5 leg ones look like giant starfish

lol, those are Palm trees, they lean out over the water, look at the shadows.

There are several nice beaches in the area, and you can swim a loooong way along the shoreline of A-Bay which is behind the Queens Marketplace in the resort. Hapuna is the nicest for long sandy bottom, the waves can be 3-5 ft.

There is a black sand beach just north in Mauna Lani, you could swim across the bay and back.

There is great snorkeling at Hualalai, Kikaua Point.

Lots of beaches, they are just well hidden.
