Remember - if you aren't paying for it, you're the product. . .
Even with a smart appliance, I side line it in a dead subnet. They cannot talk to the mothership.

All my tvs are dumb, but I'm wondering if you have a smart tv, can you access the camera that's in it?

Cliff plans on abandoning the ten year old wall mounted TVs when we decamp to the old folks home in two months. I imagine they are marginally smart if you can plug an Apple thingie into them to get Netflix? He says the technology has moved on so we need new ones. Which translates to I'll be watching Survivor in the kitchen on the little TV until after Christmas.

I bought a smart TV, not for the smart part, but for the TV part. It works just fine without connecting it to the network.

No, they are not considered "smart" if you need to plug in a separate streaming device -- that is just like plugging in any device to a TV, be it a DVD player, cable box, etc. Smart TV's have the streaming capability built in.

I purchased an extra smart TV for our porch. It is not connected to the internet. I enjoy watching local news over the air television stations from my porch. Also, when cable or satellite goes down we can still watch over the air television stations. I just bring that television inside our home. It is liked my emergency television backup.

I suppose there are levels of 'smartness' in TV's.
Some TVs have netflix and amazon prime built-in, other have Android or Apple that can run "apps"

We have a Smart TV, but did not connect it to the internet. We just use Roku instead.

I bought a 32" Vizio flat-screen TV a couple years ago from a family for $75, no remote and definitely not a "smart" TV (it says it was made in 2007). It's a pretty good HDTV (1280p), watching movies and shows, as well as playing video games (XBoxOne S) looks great! I had to add a sound bar, but that's it.

We purposely bought a dumb TV for the condo. It has an Amazon Fire box plugged into it, so sometimes acts smart- unlike it's owner/operators.
