someone that my husband and brother in-law works with contacted me to see if I would be interested in his timeshare or could at least find out what the unit was worth.

He knows he paid way too much and is trying to find out what it is worth, Sunterra offered to buy it back for $13k and he didn't know if that was a good deal.. I thought it was but I don't know anything about this resort or sunterra.

The time share is located in Maui. It is at the Kanapalli Beach Beach Vacation Resort. It is now administered by Diamond Resorts International. The maintenance fee is 793.00 for each week of ownership for a total of 1586.00 per year, due Jan 1st. Dues are 151.00 per year. They have a point system which allows you to use your points at different resorts around the world. we get 8500 points for each week of ownership for a total of 17,000 per year.

I think he told me it was 2 weeks in a one bedroom unit.

Any idea what this is worth?

TIA
Susan

Diamond is very active is trying to get back units at several of their resorts so they can resell them for big bucks. $13 K sounds like a good offer.

"Club" membership can't be sold!! Therefore they can sell only the underlining ownership which can be a two kinds.
1. a straight deeded 2 weeks in a 1 bedroom at that resort OR
2. Points in the hawaiian trust, which can be used at the resort in Maui or Kauai.

Many people love owning a TS in Hawaii. Therefore the value of this is fairly high but since it doesn't come with the "Club" membership it greatly lowers its value.

Hope that helps

A lot more DRI/Sunterra info can be found here. The short answer is as indicated above.

17Kpts points go for about $3400 on eBay and sell for $50K from DRI. If your friend just wants out easily go with the DRI offer. The problem with selling is that the buyer will get only the underlying property, not THE Club. The way you quote maintenance tells me that they still own their two deeded weeks and did not convert to Hawaii Trust. New owner would get two Floating 1-52 weeks and not the points.

Club dues ended up being $225 for this year!
