How much does it cost to convert a week to RCI points.

I already own an RCI points contract but I am curious about the conversion path.

How much do the resorts charge to convert a week to a points contract? Does it depend on the resort, number of points, number of contracts the owner wants to convert, EY or EOY etc?

Collective TUG wisdom **is that it is MUCH cheaper to buy a resale week that is already in points
than to pay the developer to convert a week you already own .

Specifically I have read this in reference to Vacation Village properties .
(ie) Grandvew - Las Vegas / Parkway - Kissimmee .

If you are looking for RCI points - there is a lot of TUG knowledge about this topic.

**< if there are any exceptions or special situations - I am sure someone will give info >

It depends on the resort. If you own a resort not in active sales but is offering conversions you may find it for less than $1000. If the resort is in active sales I would expect the cost to be $2500-$5000 or an additional purchase that would be a minimum of $5000-$8000.

Definitely less expensive to find one already converted.

What resort?

Presidential Villas at Plantation Resort did our conversion of 4 weeks for $3,000. I still thought it was ridiculously priced, but I like RCI points a lot. The MF's are pretty low, and that is what made me want to get those converted. The trading power in weeks had dropped subsantially, but in RCI Points, the MF's go further for us.

I did have to use 120,000 points for each of our Shearwater exchanges, which was ridiculous, considering I now have to cancel those two June weeks.

The common TUG wisdom is that this conversion thing is a profit center for resorts. We feel (hear) that RCI charges under $1,000 to do the conversion, and many resorts are charging their members $3,000-$5,000 to convert. One mini system I own offered to convert my week for $3,000. This on a week I'd paid $1.25 for on eBay. No thanks.

As stated above, if you want points, just buy one that's already in points. Give away the week and you're good to go.

It is a money making proposition for resorts but most goes to sales/developer vs the HOA. 40-50% of the conversion cost goes into the hands of marketing department or the 3rd party "official rci points marketers"- like Outfield if the resort is not in active sales. They give out gifts, commissions, pay sales salaries etc with their cut. I think RCI might be up to $299 per converted week as well.

From what I heard at Massanutten to get the deal they got -high points, they had to pay a large upfront fee to RCI on top of the per week rate and that fee was in the millions so they are trying to recover those fees with the conversion cost as well. I doubt any of the conversion fee goes to the HOA's there.

For the independent older resorts with the ho hum points (fair or slightly on the low side) they probably are getting a higher percentage to the HOA but those resorts also have had to make adjustments to their computer systems, contract that perhaps use to only including house keeping on one day a week for the resort, perhaps more front desk and check in again because before points you could only check in/out on one or two days of the week.
