Both wife and I had $40 copays each for our primary medical visits, positive covid tests, and initial hospital consults in which I was denied hospital admission despite losing 17 lbs. My inhaler and medications were $20 co-pay, but wife didn’t need them. So wife and I were out $100, but we each got two weeks paid leave per Coronavirus Response and Family First Bill and the stimulus refund.

Since the ACA was passed, there are very few plans with limits on max benefits.

Kurt
Those short-term 'interim' health insurance policies like those George (Bogie) has purchased for his adult kids- and I bought for my DW and me to 'bridge' the time between when I had mostly employer-paid insurance and Medicare kicked in at 65 only paid 50% of the bill AFTER a several thousand dollar 'deductible' AND they capped out at something like a $million lifetime benefit. All they are is CHEAP. As insurance, they aren't much. They might keep you out of bankruptcy. Or might not.

It has been a while since I reviewed policies, so the lifetime max could have been removed. Last I remember, it was capped at 2 million, but that was a LONG time ago. There was not a pandemic illness that could put you in the ICU for weeks at a time.

Depends on company/group as to when that disappeared, maybe? I had lifetime caps of around $1 (at least once it was scary low $500k) until ACA. I was on employer plans, so I don't know how it was with private plans or the choice of insurer.

An Austin doctor got a COVID-19 test from his own company. They billed his insurance company nearly $ 11,000.

Richard
Glad I have no part of that corruption.
