How long should I let my pending II request go?

I was able to book a week in Hawaii using an II trade and I also have a second pending trade for a second week. I hedged my transaction by using DC pts and got my second week. The trades are for late next summer. My pending request is for the week before and after my current reservation. The DC week is after.

How long before is the right amount to book flights to Hawaii and based on that how long should I let my II pending reservation go before I say forget it and just use the DC reservation?

The II week expires in July 2013 so I could use it for a spring 2013 week if I cancel the pending request.

Would appreciate any advice.

If you do decide to let your pending request go, change the weeks and/or locations to keep your place in line. Older requests seem to get priority. I never cancel, just add to or change the request.

I think you're in really good shape.

You have until 60 days prior to check-in (of your DClub reservation) for a viable trade to come through. It's definitely worth it to wait because you can get all those points back, and this would be a great way to use an II deposit.

If you need to commit to plane tickets, then you just have to narrow your II exchange options exactly to the DC week. This is a situation where Marriott's cancelation policy really helps.

Key things to remember: 1) You have to cancel your points reservation 60+ days prior to check-in and 2) June 30 is the deadline to bank your (restored) points to next year. So, as long as the 60 day cancel deadline is before June 30, you can make the most of this situation and you have a good opportunity to both get your reservation with an II deposit, and save/bank the precious DClub points for next year.

I hope that helps -- good luck!

Greg

You have a long time before you have any problem if you plan to pay for your tickets with money or use FF miles for coach seats (at least on most airlines). If you want to use FF miles for first class tickets, however, you should start trying to find what you need now.
