How Hard to Reserve Week 52 at WMH?

With the bargain basement prices on timeshares now, I'm thinking about buying a Westin Mission Hills Platinum to use during the Christmas school break.

How difficult is it to reserve Week 52?

TIA,

Koko

You cannot reserve weeks 50-52 unless you buy those specific fixed "event" weeks. Float owners can reserve all weeks except 50-52.

Purchased a Platinum resale at WMH that finally closed in September. The purchase included a 2008 that had not been reserved at that time. Sometime in July I asked the seller to reserve week 51 or 52 for me. I heard back a few days later that he was able to get week 51 - less than 6 months in advance.

Obviously as a new owner of WMH, I have no idea if this was a fluke.

My guess is that you lucked out--we own week 52 at Harborside which is a premium week and I guess if the owner just decided to use another week or trade that maybe that week is available. I would never do that as I can rent mine--as I did this year--for enough to cover maintenance fees on both my units there.
I would not buy thinking you would trade there for that week on a regular basis.

I didn't know that Week 52 was a fixed week at WMH. I based my question on the eBay ad I was looking at:

Here is your chance to own this Annual Deeded Property (Does Not Expire) at a bargain price. Two Bedroom Lock-Off, Two Bathroom, (Deeded Unit 3913; Sleeps 8), FLOATING RED WEEKS 1-21 & 50-52 (Platinum Season; allows you to make a reservation for any one of the aforementioned weeks; Fri/Sat/Sun Check-in/out) at The Westin Mission Hills Resort and Villas, a Interval International Five Star Resort, located in Rancho Mirage, California.

Now I'm confused

I'm pretty sure that WMH doesn't have this restriction as the other resorts do. I own two weeks there, and I also made a reservation this year for weeek 52. I requested the reservation in the beginning of August, was put on a waiting list, got a call on August 22, confirmed the reservation, and then got another call for another villa 3 days later (some glitch in the wait list program). It's definitely doable. I doubt you could still get it this year given that it's November, but you never know.

I agree - I don't think WMH has premium weeks.

Week 52 is definitely not an event week because when I bought my plat WMH in the Spring, that week was available (it was the only platinum week available since I bought sometime in April or May). However, it was booked quickly because sometime in July I tried to get a second unit for the same dates and there was no availability. My deed says 51 and 52 are floating for platinum.

I think if you own there you will be fine getting that week each year. Just book it before the 8 month window. If you don't own there, it is very variable. Perhaps right at the 8 month window.

I also tried to get Thanksgiving week with SOs this year and it was sold out at the 8 month mark! Bummer because it is a great time to visit the desert. Since it's Gold time, not Platinum, I could not book it at the 12 month mark.

Westin Missions Hills sold weeks 51-52 as fixed weeks but they are not considered "Event" weeks. The owners are guaranteed those weeks but if they do something else with there week, 51 and 52 are available to other owners and SVN members.

I have reserved Week 52 for the past 3 years with no problem at the 12 month window. I own Platinum weeks.

I am not sure this is 100% correct. My deed actually includes weeks 51 and 52. Perhaps they did what they are doing at Lagunamar -- selling about 50% of the units as fixed week and the other 50% are open to anyone in platinum season? I dunno. But unlike WKORV where they are clearly event weeks only, my unit has 51 and 52 as options to reserve and I reserved them about 9 months out.
