How does "hold" work for extra vacations?

What happens when you click on "HOLD" for a week you are interested in under extra vacations? Will I be asked for a credit card to hold it or does it just hold it automatically? How long do I have to keep it on hold and how do I release it if I decide I don't want it? If I don't go back and confirm it within a certain period of time does it automatically get cancelled? I am trying to help a relative manage her RCI account and understand how RCI works. Thanks in advance,

Boggie

Yes, after you click on "hold this resort" you will be asked for a credit card # (& expiry date). Make sure you go through all the steps until you get a confirmation of the hold (one is also usually e-mailed to you within a few hours). You have 24 hrs to confirm the resort (by internet or phone) or the hold is released. I have used Extra Vacations a lot and always put the unit on hold through the internet, its so easy! Be aware that most Saturday evenings the RCI website is shut down for maintenance and if that is when you need to confirm by you will have to call them before their office closes. You may have up to 3 vacations on hold at once.

Boggie,

Whenever a Guide takes your credit card number, he or she will be submitting an actual charge. This is also true for standard exchanges online. However, the technology for Extra Vacations and Last Call is separate. When you hold an Extra Vacation online, the website stores the number (and may also preauthorize the amount), but does not submit a charge. Then, when you come back to confirm, the actual charge will be put through.

If you do not confirm, the unit will release and no charge will be made.

Another question about holding extra vacations and last call

Thanks for the replies. I have another question about holding a resort. Say I put a resort on hold while I try to get the family's schedules worked out so that we can figure out whether it will work out, and I run out of time and the resort gets released. What if I find out a day or two later that schedules may be worked out and we could use that extra vacation, can I put it on hold again if it is still available?

What are the rules or guidelines regarding holding resorts? I don't imagine that 1 person can do this with the same resort several times and keep the resort tied up for several days while deciding whether to keep the week or not.

If there is some kind of printed guideline on RCI's website, please direct me to it, as I could not find anything with the answers to these specific questions.

Thanks again for your help,

Boggie,

You can pick up the same unit for Extra Vacations and Last Call as many times as you wish if it is still available. Each time it releases, it is available to other members as well.
