My husband and I are interested in purchasing 50 weeks from an individual that owns over 200. What is the process for doing this? Can it be done? The member services department at Palace Resorts said they cannot transfer these weeks to us with our own member number. They said we would have to be given access to the sellers member number and that they do not keep track of the weeks. Is this right? or is there a way to get these weeks in our name with our own member number? Thanks for any help.

50 weeks!!! Are we talking Mayan Palace or ?? It seems to me, one or 50 (or 200) they are all the same. If I owned 200 of something and you wanted to buy 50 of them (and I was in the mood to sell) I bet I would be able to facilitate whatever you wanted! :whoopie: Watch those transfer fees!:(

IF this is for the Palace Resorts (Moon, Aventura, Playacar, Cozumel, Sun, Cancun, Xpu-ha) then I think what you were told is right - you are purchasing 50 of their 200 weeks, but the account will still remain in their name. If you were buying out all their weeks I think they would switch the account. Anyone using their weeks will still get all the owner benefits. BUT if this is true - who has to make the reservations?? When you buy one week off a owner the owner has to make the reservations in your name.

Palace resorts are fantastic, in my opinion!!

Thanks Laura. Yes, I'm talking about the Palace Resorts (Moon, Aventura, Beach, Cancun, Playacar, etc). We want to buy the 50 weeks, the seller wants to sell the weeks, but we don't want to rely on them to book our vacations. Palace Resorts says they (the sellers) would have to give us access to their member number to book the week but that they would not keep track of what weeks were ours and theirs. We would really just like the weeks transferred to our own member number. If something were to happen to the sellers 10 years down the road, how would we be protected with our weeks. It seems like there should be a way to do this, but maybe Palace Resorts doesn't really want this to happen. They did say if you purchase a members entire package, they will transfer the name. Any help or comments are appreciated.

I wish I knew the answer - it would worry me also to have to depend on the other person. I know there are many Palace owners on the tripadvisor site - I would also ask this question there. I know many of those do sell some of their weeks and they have always been willing to answer questions.
I would try the Riviera Maya and the Cancun forums at tripadvisor - very active and very helpful.

I would only buy single weeks for use as you need them.
If you want to own a membership at Palace resorts you need
to buy the whole package.
Buying 50 weeks from a owner who is not transfering their whole membership package would mean its not a recognized sale of the weeks by palace resorts and way to risky for you.
I might do it if it was a family member I trusted but even then the package ownership could change hands down the road and you would be left with nothing.

I would watch ebay. I bought a membership for $1 and it included all closing costs. It is a premier membership and has 89 weeks left.

There are bargains out there if you are patient. It does not hurt you to own more than 50 weeks because you only pay as you use
