How do you apply DVC discounts at Disney stores and restaurants?

Do you just show them the membership card in Apple Wallet? Think I will get some discount as a resale contract owner.

You show them the card in the wallet and click on the “info” icon at the top right to see the details. If it says “DVC-Y” under “Affiliation” it means you are eligible for the discount (it should typically not say that if you only own resale, unless grandfathered).

There are no discounts if you are a resale owner.

Understand that “membership extra” is for direct owners only. But it’s unclear if resale owners don’t even get 10% of at many restaurants from the website. Do they even check it rigorously?

You can always just say you are a DVC member and see what happens. If pressed for a card, you can say you misunderstood the question.

My husband didn't hear the question correctly one time (we are resale owners), and he got a small discount on a purchase. I wouldn't expect though to be able to buy annual passes or anything of similar value without membership confirmation.

You can have DVC-Y on resale. It just depends when you bought and how much you own. Resale owners were grandfathered when the implemented they restrictions.

Yeah, I will spend quite a fortune at resort restaurants and I will at least try. I don't imagine they will scan your membership card and search in the database if you are "DVC-Y" or "DVC-XX else", like a highway policeman. Well if they do, I will find out. I just couldn't find out on their website - they are all under "members benefits".

If you will truly be spending a fortune and own enough DVC to visit frequently, perhaps you should consider getting at least one annual pass?

APs get discounts similar to those offered to ‘Blue Card’ DVC members and the cost savings may make it worth it to you.

This is correct. We were grandfathered for discounts and for use of the DVC lounge with our resale purchases. Now we are direct purchasers, and I don't expect we will use any other benefits.

We don't have the DvcY so don't qualify for the discounts.

But, I discovered when I did the mobile check out at a store it gave me the dvc discount. So try mobile check out first and if you get the discount, buy only where they have mobile checkout. Lol

We did have a couple of servers ask if we were dvc members and I showed them my card which clearly doesn't say dvcY but I got a discount. But I wouldn't count on that. We just got lucky I guess. I wasn't about to point out the rule to the server!

One time we rented dvc points for a stay and when we got our bill it gave us the dvc discount. Not sure how that happened but I wasn't complaining.

I have not used mobile check-out yet.

I do have direct points and I have been asked for Driver's License when using the DVC discount in shops. Restaurants - many times they take your word and give you the discount.

For a while I was resale only and an AP holder and for whatever reason I got the DVC discount (which is identical to the AP discount) when doing mobile checkout.

If you have a pass voucher in your wallet, you'll also get the pass discounts even if the pass is not active.

I find that many/most restaurants that offer DVC discount also have the same discount for Disney Visa, plus the Visa gives a nice 6 month free financing for Disney cruises.

Yeah, you reminded me to bring the Diseny visa card. Good to know that.

There's still a potential opportunity cost if you use the Visa for cruises and get 1%-2% back when you can use the Chase Sapphire reserve and get effectively 4.5% cash back on "travel". You wouldn't want to carry the balance on a regular card, but a cruise is typically a purchase that's booked many months in advance with just a relatively small deposit and can be paid off in full slowly over time by applying payments to the booking every month.

There are some differences between the 3. I find it best to let the CM know you have all 3, assuming one does, and let them help you decide. I also tend to research ahead of time where there are differences as sometimes the CM do not know the applicable discounts. At times over the past few years there have been temporary stepped up discounts for AP & DVC to the tune of 30% some of the time.

I put a PDF of the temporary card (we don't have the electronic wallet and temporary card is good for 30 days) on my phone and show it to the person completing the sale.
