I am so embarrassed to ask this, but I can’t figure out how to find stickies related to HGVC. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

@HuskerATL , as a new Atlanta transplant who worked at Creighton for almost 8 years, I love your username..

Anyway, I want to co-opt part of this thread as not to create another one...

I'm also wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for some ELI5 on how the Hilton timeshare actually works... Fiance and I purchased a TS through Hilton via one of those marketing opportunities. We had a plan, and it fell apart as soon as they said the bonus points on the contract would fund our honeymoon. Hook, line, sinker that got us. Fortunately, we got out of the contract since we cancelled during he recission period.

We are still very intersted in learning more about the Hilton timeshares on the resale market, but we're having a hard time knowing where to start our research. I keep reading that points are hard to use, devalue due to redemption increases, etc. I'd love some additional reading on how to leverage this as my fiance and I do want to vacation once a year...

I have spent way too many nights at Gallagher Hall and "few" nights at The Jay...:)

We have owned for over 20 years and have had no trouble using the system. Now it does take planning ahead and there are tricks to it but at the end of the day, there are two ways to buy; where you will spend most vacations and it is hard to book when you want to use (such as Ocean Oak in the summer) or you want cheap points to use anywhere (like buying Vegas and using the points at Ocean Oak). If you buy where you want to use it, then you get the 9 to 12 month window to book but if you go the cheap point route (I am from Nebraska so, of course, I am frugal), then you book in the club season that is 9 months or less...and with the herd. There are tricks to beat the herd and this forum shares many of them.

Look at this guide that I created to help some, https://tugbbs.com/forums/attachments/using-the-hgvc-portal-and-other-tips-v2-pdf.97543/

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any specific questions that you don't want to post.

HGVC points are actually quite easy to use as long as you are able to plan ahead. And unless you are trading from HGVC points to HHonors (Hilton Hotel) points and then using those, the cost of redemption doesn't increase.

In general, HGVC is (IMHO) the best of the major timeshare systems as long as you understand its limitations and are able to plan 9 to 12 months in advance. In particular, HGVC truly excels if you want to do one of the three following things...

1) Stay at one of HGVC's major destinations - O'ahu, the Big Island, Carlsbad (CA), Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach (SC), Orlando, and maybe NYC. There is almost always plenty of availability at 276 days (~9 months) and you can just buy the least expensive deed anywhere in the system (taking into account both initial price and MFs).

2) Stay at any HGVC resort for a week at a time (usually Saturday to Saturday) in a particular unit size and season at least every other year. Because most people don't book Home Week reservations there is almost always availability at 12 months (except perhaps for the very highest of demand weeks - e.g. President's Week at a Ski Resort). For this you buy a deed for the unit, season, and resort at which you want to stay.

3) Stay in NYC or DC. Because the "by Hilton Club" (aka bHC) resorts in these locations have "Home Resort Priority" windows in addition to the "Home Week Priority" window there is a long period of time (typically 90 to 276 days in advance) during which resort owners and no one else can book short stays. In addition, only owners can make "Open Season" reservations (cash stays) and there is usually an owners lounge. You would need to buy at the resort though not necessarily the unit and season at which you want to stay.

Ha, idk if you've been back on campus lately, but both Gallagher Hall and The Jay were demolished within the last 5 years. Sad stuff. I never got to visit The Jay before it got torn down, but I have heard incredible stories... Gallagher, on the other hand, has good riddance. That's where I lived when I worked there. :) --

I downloaded your guide and will peruse it, this is very, very helpful info all around --I will reach out to you if I have questions.

Andd, because I have saved 20k+, I'll be joining the ranks of members here soon!

Thanks, @ljmiii for your info, as well. I think I fall into category 1. My fiance and I don't often take 7 straight days. We're more interested in the 3-day vacations at places like Myrtle Beach, in Orlando, though we could do a week since remote work is way more accessible these days. At the end of the day, we are looking for something that will have good stuff on property where we can just relax in our suite/pool/barside. Orlando was great since we got to see the parks but most of our vacations we just want to relax and take in the sights.

I haven't been back in a long time but I went to UNL and dated a girl at Creighton so did that drive many many times....and crashed in Gallagher...which her roommate really didn't like.

Reach out anytime...
