Am I just out of luck on the points, or is there some way to cancel?

It doesn’t matter. Less than 24 hours before your check in date and you’ll lose the points. BUT since there are special circumstance allowances in place I’ll bet they’ll cancel your night with no penalties.

Cancelling on or after your check in day and you lose the points. Cancelling day before, you get them back in a Holding Account.

Read the link I posted, go there, it's mvci policy not hearsay. Weeks owners 0-2 days before checkin, no cancels.

It's not hearsay, do don't accuse if you don't know the truth. This was an instruction from MVCI directly concerning a Monday check-in reservation that I have in April. The points reservation cancellation has to be made by the day before check-in. Because they are closed on Sunday, for Monday check-in dates the cancellation has to be made by Saturday.

Thanks. I’ve sent an email and message through the link referenced below. It seems crazy to me that they would say cancellations can be made up to the day before check in but then provide no way to actually cancel one day per week. There should be some way to do it ourselves on the website. We can make reservations on Sundays; why not cancellations?!?

Everytime I go to a presentation or provide comments I ask for development in the system of the ability to cancel reservations. It hasn't happened yet, but it really should, at least on the points side. If HGVC can have it, so should MVCI.

Maybe  they'll adopt some of Vistana's online system. You can cancel points or weeks reservations online.

It wasn't clear who you "was told" by, sorry about that you are right, I thought you meant from someone on Tug, a friend, etc. However, the link I provided is official MVCI policy and you will find it on mvci.com. Just to clarify, just trying to help those who have not cancelled before as some seem to be unfamiliar with holding accounts, etc. I have probably cancelled 30 or so points reservations over the years.

Not all Marriott representatives are, shall we say, knowledgeable. So, if you question what one is telling you, it's nice to have something in "writing" like the link that you can rely on to challenge them.

Wherever I go to MVC’s website now, I can’t find a chat option. I used to love the chat option because it was quick and easy. Did they delete it?

I do the same for every survey they give me on how the experience was, etc. When I was on line with a representative last time about 2 weeks ago she told me that it was on the list for enhancements coming out soon. I don't know what soon means, but at least they listened. She also said that they didn't want to let us cancel becuase they were worried that it would be done accidently.

OK, for anyone reading this thread, here's the answer, straight from Member Services.
How to cancel a MVCI points reservation after hours:
1. Login to your MVCI account
2. Click on “Use Points”
3. Select “Manage”
4. Select “Upcoming Reservations”
5. In teeny tiny print near the bottom there is a link: “submit your request.” Click on that.
6. Fill out the form on the page you end up on.

You need to complete this process at least 24 hours before your check in. Of course points come back in holding, but holding points are better than no points, right? I did this last night and I'm happy because it worked (confirmed after talking with member services this morning.) :cheer:

There are ways around that, from "are you sure you want to cancel" to other techniques. Just an excuse. As they are finding out now, they really do want this feature on the site!

Michelle-

Thanks for those instructions.

I hope these weren't the points you bought from us last year. And hope you find something good within the 60 day window.

All the best,
Greg

Had the same problem, and tried the email submission. Not sure if we'll get the points back, Holding or otherwise. We'll see...
