How can I dump a timeshare in Mexico?

Hi all;

I am wondering if there is a way to get rid of a TS in Mexico. It is a 2bd 2ba in a Gold Crown week 14- very popular ocean front resort but no luck trying to sell it for $1.

Can I just give it back to the resort? Or??? We cannot use it any more since we cannot travel like we used to now that we are older.

Other ideas?

Thanks
Marilyn

Have you tried the free giveaway method here on TUG:

Have you contacted the resort asking if they will take it back?

You probably don't need to be reminded of this but, just in case, now that you've made known your intention to quickly dump your timeshare, you'll probably be getting plenty of calls and/or e-mails offering to get you out of your timeshare --- for a huge fee, of course.

Don't fall for it!

It is too early to be discouraged

Hi Marilyn,

Don't be discouraged yet. I love your timeshare! The only reason I cannot step forward right now and purchase is that we have too many timeshares too! If I sell or give away two more of mine listed on the TUG Board , I can buy yours!! I have sent you an email.

Mexican timeshares have fallen into unpopularity as has Mexican tourism. I am hopeful that they may come back. Also, consider an even trade with someone if they are interested. I have sent you an email about that. If this is an RCI timeshare and you can consolidate all your timeshares into Interval International that would be a savings. Second thing you can do is look at the rest of your portfolio and see if you can list another one and sell that one.

Lastly, spring and summer are easier times to sell timeshares than the fall.

Best regards, Janette aka "Funtime:

Positive update

I called the Management company and said we could not longer use our week and wanted to quit claim it back to the company.

They said okay- just send a letter with owners signatures and have it notarized along with the original deed.

We paid cash for it and owed nothing in fees so no hassle. It would not have been the case if we had a loan on it or did not pay our M fees.

So good news all around. Whew!

And Funtime - you can still have if you pay the transfer fee!!!!! No charge from us!
