I have a flight from Kauai into SEA for 8/22. The Residence Inn, our go-to for Marriott stays near airports, has no shuttle. I saw the information on the website but called to ask. She said to take an Uber, Lyft or Taxi to the hotel.

This is happening more often lately.

I did find a Marriott hotel to book, but it has no free breakfast, unless there is a lounge that I don't know about.

When booking direct, it is pretty easy to filter for airport shuttle. Sometimes the ones without shuttles are $30-$40 less with a $16-$20 Uber.

But you have to uber both ways.

Hotels near airports should provide shuttles, or what good are they?

Being close to the airport with minimal traffic in the morning? I think the advent of Uber basically killed the complimentary hotel shuttle. I haven't seen one in years.

I think airport hotels still have free shuttles. I've used the free airport shuttle in Miami and Chicago last year. The Miami airport shuttle even has an in app tracker that shows you where the shuttle is.

The SEA-TAC Residence Inn doesn't, and I found a bunch of Marriotts that do not provide a shuttle at the airport locations in Seattle.

I did book a Marriott at SEA-TAC with a shuttle. I booked it with my free night (up to 85K), but it was only a $300 hotel room. That kind of bothers me because I would really rather have a better return on my free night. My certificate expires in late December. I think this will be my only chance to use it.

I did get an extra free night for this year, when a TUG member mentioned an offer, I was able to add it to my card, and I only had to spend about $4,000 to get another free certificate. In all, I was able to get $600 worth of hotel rooms for the $650 annual fee (plus the $300 restaurant credit I am diligent about using).

The Courtyard Marriott at SeaTac provides a free shuttle. If you flight arrives into SeaTac at 10p prepare for a long wait. The shuttle has to slog through 30 minutes long backup trying to get into the airport. Uber/Lyft get stuck in the same backup. Many people give up waiting and just walk to their hotels.

Half the time I now take an Uber anyway. I don't have patience for waiting for shuttles anymore. I have spent to many late nights waiting for a shuttle for an hour plus.

I'm guessing that you were looking at the Residence Inn in Tukwila:

I suspect there are very few hotels in that area that provide airport shuttles, as areas that are east of I-5 are not considered to be in the SeaTac area.

In the airport area, it looks as if the only Mariott branded options would be the Seattle Airport Marriott and a Fairfield Inn. I would expect that both of those would have airport shuttles.

We have stayed at a few hotels near major airports that have shuttles in Canada and the USA. We stayed at a Toronto hotel the night before our 6am departure for Belize 2 years ago that had a free airport shuttle. We told them we needed to be at the airport for 3am and the desk clerk told us to in the lobby a few minutes before the shuttle departure at 2:45am. We were in the lobby at 2:30 and the night desk clerk advised us, and another couple who were wanting the same shuttle, that the shuttle driver had called in sick and there would be no shuttle until they could get another driver which could be a couple of hours. We were so close to the airport we debated walking but instead we called an XL Uber and shared it with the other couple. Thankfully they didn't have as much luggage as we did! The night clerk told us they have a big problem getting and keeping shuttle drivers.

When we missed our connecting flight in Atlanta to Belize due to a 5 hr departure delay from Toronto last January, the airline put us up in a hotel that did not have a shuttle, which we thought was weird. I asked if we could get a taxi chit or how we were supposed to get to the hotel, but the airline agent told us to take an Uber (and pay for it ourselves). Instead I researched online and found that the hotel next to the one the airline put us up in had a shuttle so we took that. We got off the shuttle and walked next door to the hotel the airline booked us into. The next morning we did get an Uber back to the airport as we thought the hotel that had the shuttle bus might want a room number or realize we hadn't stayed there.

You must not be looking very hard. We utilize hotel shuttles a few times each year and always see hotel shuttles when we’re at an airport

We recently stayed for a night in Seattle. I believe both of the Marriotts you mentioned offer shuttles. There were a couple of others as well, one a little further out than we liked.
In the end we went with the Hilton Double Tree because it had a shuttle from the cruise port to the hotel as part of the package. Unfortunately it turned out to be a mistake as the hotel was a moldy oldie and not a great place to stay, even for one night.
When looking for airport hotels these days, I first look to see if the airport has a transit hotel on site with good ratings, then I use the search filter of airport shuttle to see what Marriott or Hilton have in the vicinity.
Unlike others posting on this thread I’ve never waited longer than 30 minutes for a shuttle, and that’s only been after hours. We rarely have a flight that lands that late at night. Typically it’s 15 minutes at the longest, although standing on a curb makes 15 minutes feel like and hour at times.

You're probably right. I have flown much less since COVID. And I often get a rental car when I do fly.
