We will be heading to Hot Springs in a couple of weeks as well. I am planning on visiting Oaklawn race park, and the Arkansas Derby may be ran the week in which you are there. We are also planning on doing a few hikes near the area. Will be staying at South Shore, but will be able to give you a little more information when I return. I would also appreciate any advice on the area as well.

We were in Hot Springs about five or six years ago in July. Don't recommend July as it was extremely hot. For some reason or another it seems to be customary for our family to go to a pizza joint on our first day so we found this place called "HAWG'S Pizza. If you're a pizza lover this IS the place to go. Reasonably priced and casual atmosphere. There is also a place down by Bath House Row that only serves breakfast; don't remember the name but it's a pancake house and they have the best pancakes I have ever had in a restaurant. Take some empty water bottles (gallon jugs, etc.) and fill them up from the hot spring, they have spigots near Bath House Row, and you will have excellent, chlorine free, water to keep in your refrigerator. Of course the spa treatments and bath house tours are interesting as well as a hike up the mountain.

We just returned from our trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Very nice place to visit. The historic downtown section of town, Bathhouse row, is a nice place to visit with alot of information about some of the early years of Hot Springs. We also visited Garvan Woodlawn Gardens which is a beautiful area. Believe it costs around $9 for adults, but the information booklets all around town provide a small discount coupon for entry. We also visited Oaklawn Park race track, and they have added a casino since we last visited. We ate at McClard' BBQ, very good, and La Hacienda for Mexican also very good. Most other meals were eaten in the unit. Hope you have a good trip.

Oaklawn Park Casino has the strangest slot machine I have ever. I have played at casinos all over the country includeing Indian casinos and these
are strange. Machines are had to figure out. We left after about an hour.
