My granddaughter is getting married in October. Because of their jobs they will not be able to travel until late August/September, 2027. I have been searching for a timeshare week as a wedding gift for them. Because I'm so unfamiliar with the area I'm asking for your advice. She mentioned 3 areas they would like: Lagos, Sagres, and Lisbon. I belong to RCI and II but when I search I get confused. Please help with suggestions.

There are a few timeshares in Villamoura (4 Seasons, HGV Villa de Golf (II?, DEX), also HGVC Villamoura (but won't get this via RCI. Difficult to get with HGVC) but can stay with Hilton Honor points because most of it is hotel.

From Villamoura, they can drive (day trip) to Sagres in 1 hour 15 minutes, and Lagos in 40 minutes - good roads. We made a long day trip of this from Villamoura. They will need a rental car.

Lisbon is about 4 hour drive away or a short flight from Faro to Lisbon and AFAIK no timeshares there. That should be a different leg of their trip. Recommend they should also drive from LIsbon and stay in Porto up north in a Hilton or Marriott on points if possible. Porto is a UNESCO heritage site.

Portugal also has inexpensive govt backed places to stay (I cannot remember the name. We heard good things but didn't stay in them) if hotels are not possible.

Are you thinking of the Pousadas? These are are generally in converted historical buildings (think castles, convents, palaces) and while they might not fall under the definition of "inexpensive" they do usually present a good value. A totally unique experience!

Its not great for timeshares in Portugal for exchange. The ones mentioned above are good but be very wary of any others as the quality and location can be dire.

For II getaways you have the 1 at Obidos, which is to the West of Lisbon which will be nice and I think may share a location with a Marriott hotel.

All in all, there are so many excellent choices via other platforms that timeshares are somewhat limiting. The Pine Cliffs Marriott hotel has several different sections and gets great reviews. I was booked to go there but chickened out and ended up a Vilar do Golf for a third of the price!! it is a nice resort, but exchangers get the dated units, so not something I'd recommend for a special event.
