i'm curious to know what the difference is between an owner advocating for themselves by banking and selecting their trade through a trading company, as opposed to their home resort doing it for them? example-my home resort says they can do the same for me but with more effective results, than if i did it myself. during marriott's sales pitch, they echoed the same. how does this work?

IMHO, If you look at the II book and see what week has the highest "Travel index" and reserve that week, you'll do better than having your resort pick a week for you.

I have also wondered about this, and it goes beyond just picking a week. Some resorts and sales people claim to have staff who can make better trades for you than you can for yourself. My theory is that because the resort has someone that works full time on setting up and monitoring exchanges, they should be somewhat knowledgeable in trading. As a result, they should be able to set up trades and evaluate the likelihood of success better than most people. Under this theory though, the resort rep wouldn't be any better than a good VC.

However, I have also heard reports of sales people insinuating that resort reps have access to inventory not available to everyone. Given the source, I suspect this is BS.

Every resort I own at sends out tips on trading. From personal experience and/or tug, I know that many of these tips are oversimplified, slightly off, or just plan wrong although for the most part they seem to match the public information from the exchange company. Given that the tips are readily available by reading the exchange company manuals, I doubt the resorts really have access to somebody with real insider info. Since the resort rep would be an ideal source for that sort of info, I doubt the resort rep is much more than an on-site VC.

If this is correct, you are probably better served by reading tug since an educated tugger probably knows more about trading than a typical VC.

Just my theories. I'm curious what others think.

I can exchange through my Innseasons property but they charge $20 more than II. I don't see the point in doing this when I can deal with II myself. Since I've gotten a lot out of exchanging off season weeks on my own by depositing early and requesting early I don't see how they could do any better dealing with II for me.
