Hello group! I'm hoping you all can help me with some questions. I am very interested in buying at Orange Lake and found a free resale. I've never bought resale so if anyone knows the process and or pitfalls to avoid at Orange Lake I would appreciate any advice. I found a fixed week which is Labor Day week, which is fine as I have young kids that aren't in school yet. Can anyone tell me if Orange Lake lets you trade for other weeks, without going through RCI or similar? Concerned if I'm stuck with Labor Day in a few years. Any other general advice on buying into OL would be appreciated! Thanks everyone!!!

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
To exchange for another week you would have to go through RCI or another exchange company. It is fairly easy to go through RCI but you would be looking at about $300 between exchange fee and RCI membership on the years you are exchanging and OL MF is rather high at $900+ annually as it is.. You can use an independent exchange company like DAE and the fee would be less than $200. You would probably still be able to get a summer 2 br Orlando. You may find something on the same level as OL or you may have to go down a level depending on availability. I think if you wait and look you could find a deeded summer week at Orange Lake for free.

welcome to TUG!

$1 resales abound, so dont feel you should rush into a purchase just because you see one listed. take some time to do your research and see what system will work best for you!

while its super easy to buy a "free" timeshare, some are far better purchases than others!

To be more flexible with Orange Lake, I would look for Holiday Inn Club Points contracts. They may not be free, but it will give you the flexibility for room sizes and dates. Resale at Orange Lake does not give you this option unless to go to the developer to convert. You can find contracts at Lake Geneva, Smokey Mountains and South Beach that are points based.

There are a lot of other options in the Orlando area for resorts. I would check into the other resorts before purchasing a fixed week Orange Lake. Most of them are also given away for free on TUG.

Wyndham, Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, Bluegreen just to name some other options.
