In court proceedings demonstrating the precarious promises that were made to owners, the judge in the Middle District of Florida ruled that “a reasonable jury could find (that some of Timeshare Exit Team’s statements) were literally false – or literally true but misleading.” Owners testified that Timeshare Exit Team’s advertisements and representations led them to believe that Timeshare Exit Team would get them out of their timeshares or refund their money. Yet, Timeshare Exit Team never had the power or capacity to do what it promised, did not exit the vast majority of the owners and refused to refund most of the owners either by ignoring their requests or persuading them to continue with Timeshare Exit Team.

wonder just how many HICV owners paid out money to do something they could have done for free?

My guess a high percentage. In the days before good online access I can understand how the the timeshare consumer could be uneducated about resale. It still amazes me now how most do not check the internet about timeshare purchases or reselling. Most probably check for everything else.

Holiday Inn makes it look like they are doing their owners a service, when in fact, they are removing a competitor from allowing them to obtain something they sold for a lot of money by getting it back for nothing.

Yes, this is true, but which is worse; Timeshare Exit Team charging high fees and doing nothing, or Holiday Inn Vacations accepting deed backs ?

At least if a resort accepts deed backs then the consumer will not be scammed out of handing over cash by an "exit fee" company that does nothing but steal hard earned money.

this article specifically says that they ONLY took back the ones that owners were not delinquent on and did not have outstanding loan balances...

ie owners who could have simply contacted holiday inn and given back their ownerships for free... and instead those 1300 paid thousands upon thousands of dollars for "help"

In the settlement, Orange Lake agreed that its "paid-in-full" timeshare owners who'd been working with Timeshare Exit Team can now exit their timeshares through Orange Lake's "Horizons" program without having to represent any "financial hardships, health issues or other unforeseen difficulties," as owners seeking out of their contracts via Horizons typically would.

odd..since horizons doesnt require owners to provide any of that info for giving back any paid in full ownership.
