I own a week at the old Ron Jon Caribe Resort in Coca Beach and it has since been converted to points (175,000) last year in the take over from HIVC for nothing.

They convinced me to become a "real" owner and I purchased a studio for 49,000 points. I also own a week at Sheraton Vistana and was made to believe I could roll those points in my HIVC portfolio and get to the magic number of 300,000 points... I was wrong and am 76,000 points short.

My question is, if a week is "gifted" to me, can it be converted to points with out paying thousands?

What about the weeks there are available for $1, how do I get those converted in order to get to the magic 300,000 plateau?

I really don't want to have all these weeks and maintenance fees with every week I acquire.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

If the "gift" is within the family, those points would go with the transfer and can "boost" you to the Preferred Membership, providing the Gift is in the point system already.

Myrtle beach, Gatlinburg, and Lake Geneva use points and still will add to your points, but not suppose to raise you to a new level.

They lead you astray in that studio purchase , it really didn't help and that is a shame. The Sheraton Vistana rolling over I have not seen anything on this type action.

If you had those units from Myrtle beach, Gatlinburg, and Lake Geneva, and bought the studio they would have put you right thru to a level.

You have a good deal of points for some nice vacations thru HIVC, your right about the MF's , don't get over your head. Know your owners guide front to back, book at the 10 month window, and Rent those extra vacations anywhere you want to go without the hassle.

So getting a "Gifted" WEEK and not points, probably would not convert??

How would they know if the GIFTED week was in the family or not?? It was my cousins uncle on the mothers side... :)

When I have done some searches, I have not seen any HIVC "POINTS" for sale, just weeks, maybe i'm not looking in the right spot?

If I do find POINTS for re-sale, am I going ot get a hassle about adding them into my points account?

Thanks for the info.

I did fine all these years with just having my couple of weeks that we used every year along with EXTRA Vacations and then with the Ron Jon changed over, I could have just left it alone and still vacationed the same and actually stayed a couple of days longer because of the time of year we go, but I got sucked into being a real owner... I should have known better.... :bawl:

Oh well, we are down at the Ron Jon in a week and I'm afraid to ask them anything, they may sell me something again! HAHA

Usually only immediate family count in order to allow units to transfer and count toward status. A non converted week even if bought from the original developer would not help even from a family member. Holiday Inn would still require a retail purchase to convert the week.

Adding points from one of the resorts that does not convert back to a deeded week wouldn't be a problem to add to your account. The points will not add to your points in order to bump you up to the higher status but they would still be able to be used for reservations. etc the same as your current points.

So the only way to get the additional 76,000 points I need to get to the magic 300,000 would me to buy more property from HIVC at a premium?? Sounds like an expensive deal...

yes it is not cheap, but you can get points cheap from Myrtle beach, Gatlinburg, and Lake Geneva buying on ebay and private sales. I've herd of people getting bumped up, than knocked down when they find out they bought after market, Bi-annual weeks don't count toward membership level, but you still get more points to use in the HIVC system for more vacations.
There is not much advantage to the magic number your talking about (300,000)

you said "I really don't want to have all these weeks and maintenance fees with every week I acquire."
The more you own, more vacations you get, but the more your going to have to pay.

Some weeks are not good buys because of low points per MF (off season weeks) so this is something to avoid.
One advantage is you will only owe one membership fee no matter how many weeks you own ($126 yr)

By the way, a lot of sales private and ebay mention points, but they are not aware they wont go with the sale.
Only Gatlinburg, South beach and Lake Geneva have in the past but can change at any time.

All good points... Thanks for the information.

I believe my reasoning to get to the 300,000 point level was because I was told and I use that term loosely, that once you get to the 300,000 your booking points are discounted 50%. so if a week was 100,000, its only 50,000... but from what you were saying, that's not the case... Shocker! I guess I should have looked into it deeper on my own and not trusted the "sales" Pitch.

Since I wasn't there yet, I didn't do my homework.... my bad.

Now he did tell me that they could combine my two properties into one. I'm not sure what that means or what the cost would be and if it helps reduce my MF's... I may have to inquire about that...

Thanks again for responding, i'm getting a clearer picture.

Hmmmm, wonder why that is?? So if I am hearing you right, if I bought one of those properties resale, the points come with it? What I am also hearing is they may NOT be included in my overall total in my quest for 300,000.

I really screwed up a few years ago, I could snatched up a second resale 2BR at Ron Jon before they got bought out and it would have been converted to points and I would have been all set.... Oh well, you snooze, you loose. We were not ready to get another week at the time, but now I am kicking myself for not getting it.
