My husband and I are hoping to purchase our first time share by the years end. We have narrowed our search down to The Hilton Vacation Group or Marriott. Both programs look good, and seem to meet our family's need (i.e. family of 5 who hope to travel abroad several times over the next five years).
I was hoping for some feedback from current/past owners of each.
Your thoughts and experience is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

There are many threads on this exact subject Hilton vs Marriott. The biggest thing is that with Marriott, you buy a home resort and then must trade via Interval International (II) to go to another resort ( or another season at your home resort) With HGVC (Hilton) you can use the points associated with your HGVC purchase to go to other HGVC resorts ( making reservations at 9 months before travel)

The biggest factor in favor of Marriott is that Marriott have lots and lots of great locations. Hilton has lots of resorts but they have very few locations.

Before even thinking about buying anything, do some serious reading on the marriott & Hilton boards about the two systems.

Good Luck and welcome to TUG.

There have been several threads on this in the past and you might seach on this to see what you can find already.

I'm an HGVC owner and happy. When comparing HGVC vs Marriott as I understand the differences:

HGVC has fewer HGVC developed properties and many more affiliates to make up their program than does Marriott.

Marriott properties generally are considered to be a notch higher in quality than HGVC, although when you look at the reviews, HGVC's rank very high in quality.

HGVC tends to be a points bases system, and as such is very flexible and friendly to HGVC members. You can book a week or several days without issue.

Marriott (I THINK) is largely weeks based and not as flexible.

HGVC exchanges with RCI.

Marriott exchanges with Interval International (II).

HGVC comes before Marriott when sorted alphabetically.

I know there are others here who own both and may offer you their perspective.

I like owning at a home resort and having a season in which to schedule your week.

It really just boils down to your schedule and life style. If you learn how to use your timeshare/pts. you will enjoy either.

Denise or GRGS,
A couple quick questions about the chart:
Under what heading is the chart housed (want to make sure I can find it later)?
And are there fees for exchanging your home resort week with either an in-network resort, or one through an exchange company?
