I just returned from a stay at Hilton vacation club sea world in Orlando, it was my friends TS she use got on exchange through RCI using her points from another TS ....not Hilton.
She was charged a $25.00 per day resort fee.
I’ve owned and used my TS exchanged through II and never in 25 years paid a resort fee....we mostly stay at Marriott but do not own Marriott , is this just a Hilton thing or is this something new ?
I was going to trade into Sheraton Vistana Village for Next year but I’m going to pay a resort fee to stay there. I’m just hoping this isn’t a new normal.
I should add we do not do point but trade a floating week so I’m wondering if that’s the difference.

Yes, some HGVC locations charge a resort fee for accesses via exchange, but not for direct HGVC points.

Cheers.

And yes, unfortunately this is becoming the new normal. So many resorts now charge a resort fee for RCI trades.

Fees are declared when accepting the trade in RCI, your friend should have mentioned it to you. Lots of resorts are adding the fees now, not only Hilton.

DRI has charged Resort Fees for trades at many of its Resorts for years. I even know of DRI Members that were out of DRI Points and so traded different/other of their timeshares to go to a DRI Resort. Because they were not there on their DRI Membership they were charged Resort Fees.

As far as I know, Disney do not have a resort fee. Bu they do charge for parking for those not staying on DVC points.

Cheers.

They don't have a resort fee, they just have an exchange in fee of $190 per unit (for those that exchange in via RCI), that covers Disney transportation, parking, resort amenities, etc... but no, it's not called an exchange fee :), but it's a fee nonetheless.

It is a fee plain and simple, and it is a fee they collect above and beyond what they charge if you would have used straight up points to book the stay via the native points program (DVC, HGVC etc). So they are collecting an additional fee above and beyond what the owner of the point system would pay for it.

Call it a Resort fee or Exchange Fee, I don't care, but if you book it through RCI they collect additional Fees.

Agreed. I was thinking about regular hotel stays versus DVC points and not about RCI exchanges, which was the original source of the comment several posts before.

Cheers.

I’m happy I’m with II. I just traded into Marriott Grand Vista....no service charge for us.
My friend knew about the charge , she misunderstood, she thought it was a one time fee not a daily fee and honestly $25.00 a day fee for what? It’s getting to the point it’s cheaper to just do a get- away than to own and trade through RCI. Timeshares are really changing. People pay a maintenance fee, an exchange fee, a membership fee with RCI and now a resort fee.
If these resort fee starts with II it’s not worth owning and trading anymore. Like I said I have never paid a resort fee in 25 years and I’m about to start.

In most cases, though, these are places that will charge a resort fee if booked on the open market as well. The places one can stay without a resort fee are becoming fewer and farther between. Owning, though, still has no resort fee.

Cheers.

I have a getaway with Interval next week, Hyatt Pinon Point in Sedona. There is a $20/night fee and 13% tax, so its already in Interval with Hyatt, probably won’t be long before Marriott adds it too.

It’s a getaway not a trade.

I do believe you can have a membership without owning a a TS and you can just do getaways, so in the long run it’s cheaper to do and have no long term commitment like a owner.
With getaways you also pay tax I believe but that’s all pretty much up front and expected. When people bought their TS there were no resort fees When trading and now on top of the rising maintenance cost places are tacking on a$100.00 plus for a weeks stay.

Also there are resorts for getaways that you can’t trade into. For me I’m just seeing a lot of change happening and I’m not a fan. That being said I’ll say what I’ve said for 25 years, “ Timeshare’s aren’t for everyone, for me I love ours and use it” .
