Sorry if this was posted somewhere already. I didn't see it.

Which Marriotts on Hilton Head are actually on the beach? From Marriott's site it isn't easy to tell.

Second, how would Ocean Pointe platinum time trade back into Grand Ocean or Barony Beach platinum time based on your experience?

Thanks for your help.

In order as you get on the island and follow 278E: Barony Beach Club and SurfWatch are in Port Royal, Grande Ocean is just outside the entrance to Sea Pines, and Monarch is in Sea Pines.

Can't help you with exchange probabilities - I'd guess your Ocean Pointe Plat would definitely have the trade power to pull available Hilton Head Plat weeks, but I just don't know how much of the high-demand inventory becomes available in II, or how far in advance of the dates you want. Others will chime in with that.

Hilton Head is an almost IMPOSSIBLE trade from say mid June through the first week or two of August. I can't remember any posts from tuggers about being able to trade there last summer for any week other than the last two of August. This year, a tugger from the UK who owns a Marriott in Orlando was able to get a mid July week at Grand Ocean. Lucky tugger!

If your intent is to get gold season or very early or late platinum season, then I would say odds are very good. For the Carolina Marriott's it is much better to rent your week and then rent something for the Caolinas. That is the only real option left to non DC members for getting the Carolinas in the summer. I had to learn this the hard way -- thing is, a Carolina summer week off redweek will run you about 2,500, so hopefully your week can rent for at least that much. i just have very little faith in II for summer Carolina trades - no matter what you own.

Welcome to TUG ! :hi:

Surfwatch, Barony, Grande Ocean, and Monarch are located on the beach.

This is one of the reasons I owned a Summer Fixed Week at Monarch for years. No pain, no strain. I always knew when I would be going and what unit I would be in.

Totally agree. This is why I broke down and paid for a summer week at OceanWatch. You can't get into OceanWatch in the summer unless you rent or it is your own week. When I heard from owners who complained they couldn't even trade back into their own resort, I decided II was not an option. I think the Hilton Head resorts are a little easier to get into, just becuase there are four on the ocean and two not on the ocean, but still, it's such a difficult trade and definately not a trade I would want to count on.

Surfwatch is not in Port Royal. It is off of burke's Beach Road, not in any plantation. It is considered beach front.

Trips me up every time, I always think of them being so close together. (Except on a really hot day walking the beach between them when it can feel like you're walking forever. :) )

I agree, it would be a difficult trade into any of the four on the ocean. But there are four others, not two: Harbor Point and Sunset Pointe are on Broad Creek at Shelter Cove, Heritage Club and Harbour Club are down in Sea Pines. Heritage Club is the one with golf privileges; Harbour Club is right there in the middle of Harbour Town at the lighthouse.

If SurfWatch or Barony offered fixed Weeks I would have taken them in a heartbeat! Fixed units, not so important but I would have at least looked at them.

We like best to stay at Hilton Head the two weeks straddling Memorial Day, a Gold/Plat combination, and have been pretty successful using the 13-mos window and some configuration of our three weeks to get it. But I still would rather just have the confirmation in hand than go through the anxiety of that 9AM phone call rigamarole. It'd be worth paying a premium, IMO.

Hi,
Barony has part of the property that has 4 buildings right on the ocean and 2 other buildings behind a big hotel (Westin?). Exchangers usually get the garden side buildings.

Surfwatch has no buildings right on the ocean. One directly faces the ocean but there is a tidal marsh between the beach and the building. There is a nice boardwalk to get you to the Ocean. Two other buildings have ocean views from higher floors and two buildings are garden view. (We love Surfwatch)

Grande Ocean is right on the ocean but not all buildings have ocean view.

surf watch is no actually right on the ocean, but it is my favorite because it is small and intimate.. I don't mind the walk to the beach.

Welcome to TUG! What time of year would you want to vacation on Hilton Head? Personally the summer is too hot for me and it is the nicest time of year where I live so we stay home in the summer and travel other seasons. We've traded into Grande Ocean three times with a Grande Vista Gold one bedroom or even our lock off in March and late October.

It does however have direct beach access. The only thing between the resort and the ocean is the tidal marsh. For that reason I think it can be considered one of the resorts on the ocean.
