My family is headed to Hilton Head soon and I am concerned about the negative press I am seeing related to covid-19. We have been socially distancing and would prefer to continue as much as possible. We are looking for any activities suggestions such as fishing, etc where we could maintain some distance or schedule private tours. If we just walk on the beach and ride bikes we are fine with that but I have teenagers itching to get out a little more. Any ideas?

You should be able to social distance at the beach. If putt putt is open that should be doable also. Fasstr's link is a good idea too. Not sure where you are staying, but Sea Pines has a good nature preserve and you can pay to ride horses on a guided tour of the preserve.

This may seem odd, but it’s fun to take the kayak tour at low AND at high tide to really understand the eco system in Broad Creek. Two totally different experiences.

Thanks for the reminder, just booked a morning horse ride at Lawton Stables during our Sept trip.

Perfect - I am booking the horse ride now. We are staying in Sea Pines - would you still use “Outstide Hilton Head” over H2O or whatever the Sea Pines operator is?

I have used both and preferred the Outside HH experience better.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. We had a great week. The kayak private tour thru Outside Hilton Head was the highlight for me because I had never been in a kayak. We rode horses (another first for me) and rented a speed boat for a few hours as well. We cooked in except for our last night - Sea Pines resort does a curbside fresh Maine lobster for $20 which was just something different and fun after cooking every night. I used Kroger and Walmart curbside for groceries and it worked well.

I have an HHI vacation planned for late August. Based on the local news, it seems like SC and HHI are having outbreaks. Can you share more about your experience regarding COVID-19? Did you feel unsafe? How was your eating out experience? Are people wearing masks?

I'm here now. People are definitely wearing maks in places like grocery stores. I wouldn't go eat at a restaurant unless I was guaranteed outdoor seating with a lot of space. I'm not using the grills.

We‘re about 3 weeks from our week at surfwatch. Curious how things are going at the HHI MVC resort pools and beaches, in terms of crowds and social distancing. Any feedback from those of you down there now would be awesome.

We were at Grande Ocean last month, and we're quite familiar with Barony and Surfwatch and the rest of the island, so I'll answer.
Typically the Marriott resorts have only their crowd using the beach in front of each resort (Barony might be slightly more at risk
due to the Westin Hotel adjacent, and other Port Royal resorts in the area, but Barony's beach is still fairly private too).

Different from the Marriotts (excepting Monarch), I suppose the 2 favorite beaches where public access is allowed will be very crowded,
like at Coligny Plaza area (condos and hotel nearby, plus public parking)
& at Sea Pines Beach Club/Marriott Monarch (both to be avoided),
so for safe distancing, people will need to walk down a ways in either direction.

HOWEVER, for you at Surfwatch, I sincerely think you'll be fine.....The beach directly in front of Surfwatch is usually only occupied
by Surfwatch guests.
Any outsiders from a scant few private homes & condos adjacent (if even occupied at the time, and sometimes they're not)
are usually down a hundred yards or so in front of their own properties, so unlike most other places,
you should have plenty of space to "safe distance". Those others typically do not drift over near the Surfwatch property.
Their boardwalks and/or paths lead them straight to their beach, and that is NOT in front of Surfwatch.

The 2 pools at SW will have some people for sure, but it won't be overcrowded enough to prevent safe distancing, imho.
The staff will be placing poolside chairs appropriately.

This LINK BELOW might help to show you what's in the area.
Note Surfwatch's single boardwalk to the beach, and its distance from the other paths....hence a relatively private beach.

We were just there for a week with our large family trip and the week before, in Charleston. For HHI and Charleston people were generally wearing masks when not eating inside businesses consistently though there were some that did the no mask mask thing where they either wear it below their nose or on their chin. Outdoors it was hit or miss but is not a requirement unless an employee working with the public. We did not feel unsafe and we did eat out a couple of times and use the grills at Grande Ocean. They were wiping them down several times a day and people were good about keeping their distance.

It appears that the Planet Fitness on Hilton Head has finally opened. Our clubs in Cincinnati have done a great job of assuring machines are at least 6 ft apart and are cleaned after every use. I would expect the location on HH to have similar standards. I look forward to being able to use these facilities when I am there in Jan-Feb, especially during restaurant week.
Here is location information.

There are several nice restaurants near BlueWater Resort & Marina TS resort that have outside dining..
Forgive me senior moments. I have forgotten the names of the restaurants.

Hudson’s, Skull Creek Dockside, and Skull Creek Boathouse are all basically right next to Bluewater. All have fairly extensive outside dining right now.
