Are there any "economy" timeshare possibilities in the Hilton family in Hawaii? Any island. Hubby is looking to buy a week.

AFAIK, the best deal going is Bay Club, an affiliate that's managed by HGVC as if it were one of its own. The prices are reasonable, but you'll have to pay an activation fee to join HGVC. I would guess that next best would be one of the towers HHV (Hilton Hawaiian Village).

But anywhere in Hawaii carries pretty hefty MF's, relative to elsewhere in the HGVC system, and its the MF's over a period of 10-20 years that determines your true cost. So, you need to be darn sure that's where you want your home-resort.

If you are a good planner, you could simply buy somewhere cheaper (ie Las Vegas), and book at 9 months out at the Hawaii resorts. You are not guaranteed space, but the chances are good. This is what we have done over the last 5 years or so that we've owned Hilton. Bay Club, in particular always has availability at the 9 month mark. HHV, not as much, but if you are flexible, can work most of the time.

You were right, he did finally come around! But I'd do exactly what is suggested above. Buy more points in Vegas and get really good at planning ahead. It'll save you thousands.

Also remember that HGVC is expanding in Hawaii, with two more towers planned. I think one more will be in HHV and another stand alone one somewhere close by in Waikiki.

Now I say that not for you to stand in line to purchase there, but as a fyi so you know there will be lots of rooms available for you to book when you buy a cheaper alternative like Las Vegas or elsewhere with lower MFs.

I realize this is the TUG mantra, but not everyone places $$$ at the top of the list. I gladly pay the Hawaii ownership mf premium to get my OF Lagoon unit reserved at 12 months.

I'm going to Vegas tomorrow and had no problems getting a unit open season, so I hope people keep buying Vegas and trading out :).

I have owned at HHV since before it was completed and have gone every year since. However, rarely have I stayed in the unit and season that I own, thus I always book 9 months out. Over the years it has become more and more difficult to get a reservation...not impossible, just difficult.

If you know you want you want to go to HHV Lagoon Tower on an annual basis then you should buy there.

I don't disagree with that. I paid more to get a ski week at Valdoro because I board every year (at Valdoro as I type) however, if I were in the OPs shoes, I'd buy more points in Vegas or sit back and use the points I have for awhile. Having seen her previous posts, I think there's more options for her with pure points over a specific location. Her 5,000 at LVH was too much at the end of last year, but now it isn't going far enough. That doesn't necessarily lead to buying a Hawaii unit. My 2 cents: the OP would do well to embrace ownership for a couple years before making a decision on what to buy and where.

Good points! I just told hubby to use some of our banked points (15,000 I think so far) and book a week in Hawaii. We can go any time. We have not used our points at all.

Was going to book Hilton in florida for DW, but not sure I can do that this year (mom sick and lives with us).

thanks everyone.
