So they offered me the lower of what I paid or about $7900 for my 1BR Flamingo platinum (I paid about $5900 + fees = $7000). Then they'd upgrade me to a 7000 point package if I paid them $20k more.

So that's about $13,000 to add 1200 points!!

Are they kidding????????:whoopie:

Then the bozos called me back about 30 min later with the same sales pitch again-- guess they forgot to put a check mark indicating they already called me.. Very unimpressive!

See if they'll pay you the $7900 for your unit, then don't upgrade and buy resale!

Yeah right, that'll work. ;)

They're trying to do the same thing in owner updates, so apparently they see this as a new source of income.

HGVC called me with a similar offer. Considering that they were calling me, they were actually pretty vague about what kind of credit I would get for the trade-in. It sounded like they were going to give me less than I paid resale for my Flamingo platinum week.

I'm surprised they don't have a better offer for resale buyers. Starwood gives credit equal to what the ORIGINAL buyer paid for the week. They still make a profit on the overpriced developer week and get to keep any increase in the list price of the trade in week.

I told Hilton that I would never consider a trade in on those kind of terms and to please not waste my time by calling me.

At least their offering to upgrade your ownership. When we actually inquired about upgrading our 2 bedroom Plat. week at HGVC LV Strip to a 3 bedroom penthouse, they didn't want to talk upgrade. In fact, they refused to talk upgrade saying they didn't offer them anymore. Instead they wanted to just sell us an additional week.

In the past Hilton has treated us with a little respect when we've done the owners updates. This last time, we were treated like a piece of meat one of the body snatchers off the street had grabbed. They gave us the full court press including offering us the trial membership (trial membership? Heck, we already OWN with Hilton!). It's the last owners update we'll ever do and, it eliminated any possibility that we'll ever give them referals again.

I'm not certain who's running the show for the HGVC sales offices but I'm not impressed.

LOL... Kind'a sad that they're reading from the same TS sales script that everyone else uses. Apparently, it hasn't occurred to them that there a significant number of us who are not pea-brained and can see thru their BS. Its to the credit of the "program" that we buy into it, nonetheless.

I think Hilton would be much smarter if it instituted the "Retro" program that Starwood offers. For example: you purchased a unit resale. Hilton offers to let that unit count towards Elite Status and other benefits if you purchase a new unit directly from Hilton and throw in some bonus points to sweeten the package. It is not clear how many people would jump at that offer, but it might not be as offensive as $20K for an additional 1200 points.

I've forgotten the exact percentage, but I think it's in the 50-60% of what the original owner paid. In my case, my resales were worth a lot more than I paid for them if I wanted to upgrade.
